Basically it's just every two months, so Jan/Feb, March/Apr, May/Jun, etc. Usually the exact dates for each round are set at the beginning of the round. Mar/Apr is just finishing up and the judges are working to determine the winner. Once the winner is chosen, that winner will select the next round's theme -- so we don't actually have a theme at this very moment. Once the winner chooses the next round's theme, then the facilitator (as of today, that's now Cmdr. Aron Kells, FO of SB118 Ops) will set up the next round and announce the exact open/close dates of each round. But we don't post the exact dates for each round, as it's mostly determined by the judges finishing up, getting the winner to choose the next theme and so forth - a lot of person-dependent situations that require some flexibility. New rules have been announced in the rules thread. Hopefully this will solve our problem here. For a sim to win the final round, it not only has to go through staff judging at a few semi-final rounds, but it also has to have at least 10% of its votes from members on another ship than the original poster.

We're currently on ROUND 4 of the contest. Please mark any submissions with the "Round 4" prefix. Also -- Cmdr. Eden Redstone will be taking over leadership of this contest, to help us get back on track!

I do like the idea of a half-season show that's very tightly focused. I think we've seen how well it can work on character-focused programs like Downton Abbey and The Walking Dead -- the short time-span forces the writers to eek out everything they can from the medium, and it leaves fans wanting more instead of wondering why the producers wasted a week on an utterly awful episode. Plus, production costs are lower with a shorter run. For a series like Trek, where pretty much everyone over the age of 25 knows the premise, this would be a great way to dive right into it!

Before the late 90s there was very little activity on same-sex marriage in the US, and it was considered a rather ridiculous notion by even most gays and lesbians. Activism in that era was more focused on employment rights (which we still don't have protections for, here in the US) and the AIDS crisis, especially by 1985. So, I'm sure to whoever wrote this pamphlet, the notion that same-sex marriage would exist in the future was something that never even crossed their mind!

The funny thing about all this is that when you think about it, everyone probably has a lot more time on their hands than we do now. Advanced computer AI would eliminate jobs by the millions, and even on a starship you'd probably end up sitting around a lot as it moves from place-to-place, so what exactly does everyone do all day?

It always aggravated me when Data would call the 20th century "ancient history." We don't consider the 1600s "ancient" history, so I don't know why they would act that way. But yeah, they did seem to have quite a fetish for the classics.
