  1. I have seen some extremely good SIMs in Academy training sessions when I was conducting training. At the time, I wished there was a place to post them. This is an excellent idea for a thread. I will be looking through some of my old training SIMs to see if I can add to this. It would be from those who have long since graduated though, if that is okay. I miss training and have always enjoyed conducting training missions in whatever capacity. I can't wait to be able to rejoin that club! I also once had a trainee who was a novelist in RL. I shook my head in disbelief in the quality of the writing, and LONG. Hoo boy!
  2. Hi everyone! Just popped by to say hello. Glad to see you are all still around I miss you all. Happy voyages and SIMming to each and every one of you! Tracey Townson H237708TT0
  3. Welcome to the Poll of the Week! Television over the years, have offered us a myriad of Easter eggs hidden in it's scenes. Easter eggs are little segments that can be found in a television show episode or episodes, that may refer to another television show or movie that is not associated with that particular television show. It may be hidden in a scene and not discerned by anyone unless you have a fast eye. Movies can do the same. A famous example was when the next Pixar movie would always be hidden in the previous one before Disney bought Pixar. Star Trek is not immune. I have seen at least 2 references to other television shows or movies hidden in the scenes of Star Trek. Here http://wiki.starbase118.net/wiki/images/5/52/5PYOsv8.jpg is one when David Ogden Stiers guest starred on Star Trek: The Next Generation and of course, who can forget R2D2 floating in the rubble of the newest installment of Star Trek when Enterprise arrives as the ill-fated Vulcan? So that brings us to this week's Poll of the Week question. Have you ever noticed as Easter egg in any Star Trek episode or movie? If so, what was it? So vote above and please let us know what you discovered, if anything, below.
  4. Welcome to the Poll of the Week! "Salt this, buddy!" is a statement that may be found above some member's profiles. It was originally an inside joke referring to the slug inside one of our member's character who happened to be a Trill. It took on a life of it's own at the time here on the forums but now leaves people scratching their heads wondering what it means. That being said, Trills are a long lived species. Not the part of them that are exposed to the outside world, with their spotted skin, but instead the Trills that live inside their spotted hosts. They can live for many generations moving from one host to the next as each host eventually dies within normal life-spans. But you all probably know that and there is lots more on Trills here: http://wiki.starbase118.net/wiki/index.php/Trill. So I will stop while I am ahead and move onto this week's Poll of the Week question. The most famous Trill from the Star Trek television episodes is Dax. Introduced to us first as Jadzia Dax, we soon learned there were several hosts to the Dax symbiant. This week's question is, which was your favorite? So vote away and don't be shy to comment below.
  5. Welcome to the Poll of the Week! A friend of mine has recently started up a company and has been trying her best to sell it to those she knows as well as strangers. She has found out, the hard way, that it is not easy to market a product or service unless one has inside help. The universe of Star Trek also contains entrepreneurs and as such, selling to those who live in that universe must contain the same pitfalls that would fall onto entrepreneurs of our universe and time. So that brings us to this week's Poll of the Week question. If you had a business in the Star Trek universe, what Star Trek character would make for the best spokesperson for your product or service? You can choose amongst the list above, or you may add your own and please don't be afraid to comment below.

Welcome to the Poll of the Week! If you have not already seen it, the trailer for the upcoming Star Trek film has been released and is readily available to watch on Youtube. For those who have seen it, there have been mixed reactions. This week's Poll of the Week will be focused on the trailer for Star Trek: Beyond. What do you think of it? Will you see the movie when it comes out? From the little revealed, what are your concerns, if any, that you may have with it? As always, we here at Poll of the Week are eager to hear your thoughts on the matter and are interested in your votes. So vote away and comment below if you so desire.
  7. Welcome to the final Poll of the Week for 2392! ::Cue Auld Lang Syne:: Each year we look to the next as hopefully being better and brighter than the last. We learn from our experiences as the years slip away and as as we learn, we grow and become more mature, more adept and hopefully, more wiser. In my personal life, I see the changing of the years to be a bridge to new experiences, hopes, fears, losses, gains and loves. And as with all experiences, whether they be good or bad, each can be taken as a new form of growth. When I write for my character, I try to envision the same type of growth in her. Whether she'll achieve her ultimate goals or not, is not so much the ideal when I write for her. Its how she deals with the situations she encounters in her missions that she participates in is what I strive to portray. I consider each one to be in fact a new learning experience for her, whether the outcome is good, or bad. This is something I try to write into her story arc on a regular basis. As the year draws to a close, this week's Poll of the Week will look both to the past and to the future, with an emphasis on your character or characters. As for the past, did you achieve all you planned to achieve with your character(s) over the past year, or was there something that did not quite turn out? As for 2393, what are your plans for your character? Do you hope for that promotion, that award, that badge, or move into command? Do you plan to take up a new OOC activity, or just become more involved in the group in general? Or are you happy where you are and what you are doing and just wish to continue SIMming and enjoying your time with the group? For this poll I will allow multiple responses, so click away at your answers and, please, add your own input and Happy New Year to everyone in the Fleet!
  8. Welcome to the Poll of the Week! Well I for one am excited! I am excited because the holidays are now among us and this gives me reason to get get inebriated. Not that I need an excuse to get inebriated at any other time of the year. The only difference is, I can do so and not worry how my hangover will affect me at work the next day, as I am off for quite some time. The holiday season also brings out the best in the spending season. People are everywhere buying gifts and trinkets and a slew of stuff for their loved ones. The malls are packed as people rush to get their last minute shopping done. So that brings us to this week's Poll of the Week question. As with any franchise, there are a slew of gifts and toys available for fans of Star Trek. Are you planning to buy a Star Trek related gift for a loved one you know? Or maybe even for yourself? So vote above to let us know either yes or no, or if not sure yet, maybe. Also please let us know what you would fancy as a well-meaning and fun Star Trek related gift.
  9. Welcome to the Poll of the Week! A friend of mine had a baby last week and it was a real thrill. It was her first and she felt great. Today she is up and about and wallowing in the joys that a newborn child can bring into the lives of any happy couple. This week we will be focusing on the maternal instincts of those in the Star Trek universe. Who do you think would make the best mother of the women of Star Trek? So vote away for whom you think would make the best mom from the list above, and of course, should I have overlooked anyone who you think should have been listed or at least given an honorable mention, don't be afraid to post below.
  10. Welcome again to the Poll of the Week! I appologize for the delay. I was on a short LOA due to personal reasons. I am now back and ready to continue with our regularly scheduled Poll of the Weeks! So let's get things started. I have noticed that there has been talk of maybe a new Star Trek series in the works. Whether this is true or not, is anyone's guess. But in this week's Poll of the Week, let's think hypothetically there will be one. Should there be a new series, where would you like the new Star Trek series to be set? Would it be based on the universe portrayed in the new movies? Or would you prefer it being based in the prime universe post Dominion war? Would you rather see the new series explore more of the past in a Romulan-Federation War setting? Or how about a Star Trek series set in the far future? Or maybe you have a different setting you would prefer? So vote away and let us know here at Poll of the Week what would be your dream scenario for the setting of a New Star Trek series, should one ever be broadcast over the small-screen airways ever again.
  11. The CBC. I'm assuming they will film out of Toronto or Vancouver? I may apply for some sort of position. I have a few friends over at the CBC
  12. Welcome to the Poll of the Week! One of the wonders of the city where I live is that there is more than one language that is spoken by the general population on any given day. Our main language is French but there are many who speak English as well. In fact, when walking around, you may hear a group people speaking to each other in English as they sit around a table eating a dinner at a restaurant, and will easily switch to French when ordering their food from the server. And the opposite also occurs as well. This goes for most of what happens here in Montreal as most of the population is bilingual here. So that brings us to this week's Poll of the Week question. In addition to the language you speak, what language of the Star Trek universe would you also like to know? The list above is not all inclusive and I may have omitted other languages from the Star Trek universe, so if there is a language you wish to add, just put it in the comments and we here at the Poll of the Week are eager to see which Star Trek languages would be your favorite to learn. You may choose more than one!
  13. Welcome to the Poll of the Week! Star Trek: Renegades had its world premiere at the Crest Theater in Los Angeles on August 1, 2015. The project was an independently produced TV pilot for a potential new “Star Trek” online series. As I have not yet seen it I used the outline from the IMDB website for the film's description. There they say that the premise of the film is that a problem with the distribution of dilithium has occured and as a result, space and time is folding in on itself. Chekov lives forever in the Star Trek universe and appears to still be alive as he asks for the help of Tuvok to carry out the mission to fix what is wrong. The film is directed by Tim Russ. So that brings us to this week's Poll of the Week question. Have you seen Star Trek: Renegades yet? If no, do you plan to see it? If yes, what did you think about it? So vote away and please leave your comments below. Be careful though and please try to avoid spoilers for those, like I, who have yet to see the film.
  14. Welcome to the Poll of the Week! Machiavelli said "A great leader should be feared more than loved." Patton said "A great leader is one willing to make the tough decisions." Napoleon said, "A great leader is a “dealer in hope.”" Groucho Marx said, "Only one man in a thousand is a great leader of men—the other 999 follow women." With that being said, which Captain do you think was the greatest leader in the Star Trek franchise? The battle is between Kirk, Picard, Sisco, Janeway and Archer. May the best leader win and as always, don't be afraid to post your thoughts below!
  15. Welcome to the Poll of the Week! I remember watching "Q Who" from the Next Generation and recall the throw away line from Guinan where she said something interesting that I never paid much attention to before, she said something like "When humans are ready, it may be possible to establish a relationship with the Borg, but for now humanity was only raw material to them". Do you think the Borg could ever establish a relationship, even a friendship, with the Federation in the future? Perhaps there is even an alien species that is worse than the Borg as an enemy? What could be worse than the Borg? Q hinted on the same episode that there are "terrors that would freeze your soul". The Borg may be bad, but there could be worse things out there, deeper in space that the Federation haven't even come in contact with. Perhaps, we are lucky we just saw the Borg, because much worse things lurk farther in space. It would be interesting to see if there are beings out there that that make the Borg look like kittens. What are your thoughts? Vote away and don't be afraid to post your thoughts below!
  16. Welcome to the Poll of the Week! It has been a scorcher this week where I live. As such, I have been looking for ways to cool off in my free time. The other day, I went into a local coffee bar and decided to get myself a drink to do just that. At the counter, the person in front of me ordered a tea, turned to me and said that a nice, hot tea actually cools him down. When my turn came up to choose what to have, I tried the same and ordered a tea. Then I had to choose. I am not a tea drinker and apparently there are quite a few choices when it comes to tea. Instead of pondering, I decided to go with what I know. I chose the Earl Grey tea. As I sat sipping on the tea, I realized why I chose that tea. It was the first one that came to mind from my days of watching the Next Generation as it was also Captain Picard's favorite beverage. I smiled to myself wondering how many other things I chose based upon influences from pop culture and was certain it was quite a bit, and to tell you the truth, I am not a big fan of Earl Grey tea. So that brings us to this week's multi-pronged Poll of the Week. Have you ever had Earl Grey tea? If so, did you try it because of Star Trek? Did you like it? If so, how often do you drink it? The pollsters here at Poll of the Week are eager to find out, so vote away and don't be afraid to leave your comments below.
  17. Welcome to the Poll of the Week! Where I live, or close to it, about 45 minutes away in a small town called Pointe Calumet Quebec, Kylie Jenner will be celebrating her 18th birthday partying at a place called the Beach Club in a couple of weeks. Along with her, she will be bringing an entouage of other celebrities along with her as well as Justin Bieber who is supposed to MC the event. I have been to the Beach Club twice before. What started out as a small community dance club on the beach front, has turned into an apparent international sensation. It also helps that the legal drinking age in Quebec is 18. It may be the reason Kylie Jenner is coming here instead of anywhere in the USA since the legal drinking age in most US states is 21. Also, rumor has it she will be paid almost two hundred thousand dollars to make the appearance. Pretty good gig if you can get it, I'm sure. As with most celebrities that I have run across, she will also probably be bringing along her personal body guards for protection. It would be almost dangerous for big name celebrities to walk around unprotected in any public venue, although I have seen it. I ran into Dave Shapelle a couple of weeks ago at a local restaurant about a week ago for example and he was alone and quite a few sports celebrities who were alone. My first run-in with a celebrity was way back in 2003 when I met Angelina Jolie at a local Ben and Jerry's in downtown Montreal. She too was alone at the time. So this week's Poll of the Week deals with personal protection. What if you were famous in the Star Trek universe? If you needed to make a public appearance, which of the security officers portrayed in Star Trek would you trust most to protect you from the crowds of fans? So vote away and let us know why you chose who you did.
  18. Welcome to the Poll of the Week! Last week, for the first time in my life, I watched MASH the movie, and lo and behold, I discovered two Star Trek alumni as stars in the movie! Rene Auberjonois who played Father John Mulcahy and best known to us as Odo on DS9 and Sally Kellerman who played 'Hot Lips' Houlihan and known from the Original series episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before" as Dr Elizabeth Dehner. The movie was basically a dark comedy based on the antics of the main character doctors at MASH 4077th, a front line military hospital during the Korean war. The actors in the movie were the who's who of stars in the late 60s and early 70s being Donald Sutherland as Hawkeye Pierce, Elliott Gould as Trapper John McIntyre, Tom Skerritt as Duke Forrest, Robert Duvall as Major Frank Burns and Roger Bowen as Colonel Henry Blake. After watching it, I almost created a character somewhat like Hawkeye from the MASH movie as an NPC in SIM, but chose not to do that. At least not yet. Who knows what the future holds, however. But that brings us to this week's Poll of the Week. Of the Doctors portrayed in Star Trek, which do you think had the best funny bone? Which Doctor made you take the best medicine of laughter the most? So vote away and please let us know why you chose as you did!
  19. Welcome to the Poll of the Week! I must apologize for my silence over the last two weeks. Real life kept me busy. All is more at ease now and so, I began re-watching the Star Trek movies which I have not seen for several years. As I did so, I began to notice quite a few things different between the Star Trek movies and their television show counterparts. Of course, for the Original series cast, the effects were so much better in the movies than they were on TV. But for the Next Generation films, however, especially with Picard in the film adaptations of the Next Generation, where his behavior oddly changed, there too, the graphics were better. The above is just one example where there is a difference between the television adaptations of Star Trek and their movie counterparts. There are many others as well. So that brings us to this week's Poll of the Week question. Which did you like better? The films or the television shows the Star Trek films were based on? So go ahead and vote, and as always,we'd love to hear your feedback!
