Tiny bit of backstory to how this came to be. Over the past few missions, I've found myself enjoy writing storylines and sims that have a diplomatic focus, particularly for my own character Nilsen. In our shore leave, I put a note in the OOC groups asking if anyone is interested. Sherlock and Maxwell replied almost instantly, and we got talking and came up with the idea that Sherlock asks her partner Martinson to give him some lessons. Taggart comes along too (and we learn that he might have a connection or two on the OEB that he doesn't know about yet) and we start simming this out. And of course, just causally like it's nobodies business, both Sherlock and Maxwell come along to give me the most amazing lines to play with. So first, Sherlock sets up the roleplay. This puts my character Lhandon on the back foot. He wasn't expecting this. He thought this would be a presentation or a worksheet. I let Lhandon make a mistake here, and it was picked up on right away. Taggart reacted kindly. Martinson also reacted kindly, and offered these words. Then Taggart goes for the neck. The second I read this, I wanted to write my reply. What a term to set! And what a challenge for Lhandon. This prompt and this observation was so perfectly placed. Does Lhandon know that he's being defensive. Martinson's prompt will give Lhandon perhaps the push he needed, particularly when he says get creative. So in short, these two canny simmers are amazing, have set up the most wonderful scenario for me to play in, and the chance to really explore this part of Lhandon's character and I'm really looking forward to what's next. This made me laugh. Ops and Security do have a special relationship.

Often when you're on a ship that is gallivanting around the gamma quadrant, it's very easy to forget that the rest of the universe exists. Here @Avander Promontory gives us a sudden reminder that there's more to the trek universe than our ship. I've been inspired by this sim to make one of my own. Some spoilers for Picard series three ahead.

We often forget that English is a messy language full of contradictions, exceptions to those contradictions and a need to borrow from most Western languages. Here @Karen Stendhal gives us a little bit of an insight into how she sims and how things translate from Italian to English. I may have also googled the phrase "È con tante cipolle che saluto a tutti quanti i gattacci e fanbagno ai malpensanti!" and now I really wish we had that in English.

Something that I'm trying really hard to work on is writing how my character perceives others, what they do and how they act. Here's @Alora DeVeau just casually giving a masterclass in this. To give some context, we've gotten the United Dominion of Planets to the table, and the party of Katsim, Nilsen and Yinn have persuaded them to work with us to help the people of Cheydalanga. Nilsen very much has been driving those discussions forward while showing his potneal and Katsim as his superior officer has been his safety net. But now, he's relying on that net. Katsim has noticed that Nilsen is great at ops and assigned him to a task that fits his strength but also she's noticing that he is starting to get worried about his fellow officers on the surface. Amanda (simmer) left just a little action that I'll be picking up on in my next sim, it was simply an acknowledging smile and perhaps that's enough to stop our HCO from grabbing a shuttle and doing something stupid.

So negations with the Federation and the UDP have gone well, so well that they are starting a joint effort to help refuges from a newly liberated mine. The federation characters (mine included) are going at 100mph, they're getting to work, but Fraya raises some incredibly important questions. You know it's good when you read the sim and immediately you are thinking of how your character is, or isn't going to answer that question. You also know it's good when you want to write your reply right away. As always @Jack Kessler indulges in his favourite hobby, writing the most kick butt sims that stand among the best not just on our ship but also in our fleet.

Damnit you beat me to it. I was going to post this too. Honestly this is what makes @Josh Herrick one of the best people in the fleet to sim with. Every single one of his characters is unique, diverse and beautifully written. You really feel like each character has a history, their own wants and desires and feel like real people. What takes me a hundred sims to develop takes Josh meer seconds.
