Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Please use this thread for any general discussion or questions about the Top Sims Contest.
+ Clase Drene Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I would like to see this happen,, I am ready to start posting sims. The basic idea is that if there are any comments by any simmer other then me I need their permission to post their parts,, right....?
Ilene Torza Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Another question (other than if there's a process for obtaining consent when posting a SIM with dialogue from a writer other than the primary writer) - does the contest start with posts from today (Feb 1st) on or is there some leeway for posts within the last week? Just so I know if I should go back and look at a few of the good SIMs from the past week.

If you're talking about dialogue in sims, you do not need anyone's permission to post a sim, or fill in dialogue tags. Guest Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 how does the contest work with joint sims? do both (or all) authors receive the award?

Toni Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Sir, on the Challenger we are not allowed unique sim titles. All of ours follow the same format as written below. Rank, Name, Position, Location, and "Name of Mission" (long or short)Example: LtCmdr Toni Turner, ACO - Bridge USS Peregrine - "A Cadet's Vengeance"Given this, all sims by the same person from the same location would have identical titles. My question is how would we show the difference, when so many will be the same?

Salak Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 (edited) V.Quick feedback:Loved reading Stinging Truths on the group list when I got it. Brilliant JP from two of the best writers in the fleet. The Admirals sim was good but don't feel it's quite of the same calibre. She can write well though and I will not be amazed if she does win a contest again at some point, think she has in the past. Toni, I love description and felt your sim could do with more of it before I could think of it as a potential Top Sim. Too much dialogue and not enough setting, description, explanation of characters reactions, etc... The dialogue itself is good though.I feel this should be more for recognising the writing and achievement of OTHERS. Thus a crewmate would submit your work if they feel your sim is of such an outstanding standard. I'm tempted for future rounds to deduct a point from any mark i give to people submitting their own work, though haven't in this round. Edited February 7, 2008 by Salak
Salak Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 (edited) By the way, Lt.Cmdr Riley and Lt.Reynolds are of the Indy-A, NOT Ursa Major, even if the sim may have been set on the Ursa (joint after-ceremony party) Edited February 7, 2008 by Salak
Guest Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Yeah I know they're on the Indy, but the party thing made things complicated in terms of topic title!

Salak Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Wasn't sure, hence why it went here. Noted for future
Salak Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 (edited) Is that it for this round? Who's won/is in any run off poll? I'll be somewhat shocked if Stinging Truths hasn't won, how that's currently showing as only 4 stars defies logic.I'd've given it 6, or even more if it were possible given it's the best I've read in... probably at least 3 months. And the previous sim of close to that quality I can think of is by one of those two writers as well! And no, I'm not saying that just because I'm on the same ship. The fact it was nominated by someone on a different ship only adds to the argument about its' quality surely? Edited February 18, 2008 by Salak
Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf Posted February 18, 2008 Author Posted February 18, 2008 I've been sick as a dog, so I haven't had a chance to work on this. As far as ratings go: more people need to be rating the stories if you feel the ratings are currently skewed. Just get your crew mates involved.
