Hi All!

I've heard many times on here in the Discord Channel that lots of people want to play Star Trek Adventures.

There are many reasons that it's difficult to join a group. I think it's locations, times, frequency etc.

So, I thought it be good to have a thread and see if there is anyway we can try and pull together in some way and perhaps create some groups for people.

I was initially thinking this would likely be organised by timezones, as that would make it easier for gameplay and people could select the most appropriate time zone for themselves. Although I don't believe we'd get the numbers to consistently run a game by doing this.

It would likely need to be deciding a time and play frequency that suited the most people who would be interested.

I am willing to be the GM, although have zero experience being a GM - so would be happy for someone else to do this. I know that @Ensign Sadar has kindly stated that she'd be willing too, beginning in the spring.

Anyone got any thoughts, feelings, opinions or suggestions they'd like to drop in the thread?

I'm interested! I'm in EST and would need a game that's like a weekday after work, like 7pm. Weekends are out, too much other stuff competing.

I have no experience and not even sure where to start, but I am interested if anyone is patient enough for a newbie to it. I'm in US Central time zone (GMT -6).

I believe this is no problem at all. Just quick question by "no experience", you meant no experience with D&D / GURPS / D20 games in general too? :)

So, I believe we could start to think about basic settings, as:
Federation personnel or not?
Which era we want to play?
ENT / TOS / DIS / TNG / DS9 / PIC?
Which characters we want to be?
Lower deckers? Ship command staff? Flag officers?
Ship or station?
If ship, which size?
Which position you would love to have?

Game works within three different branches - Command (so leading the people, making spy stuff and/or diplomacy or CON) / Operations (TAC/SEC, ENG and OPS on the vessel) / Sciences (medical/science dep)

Hi @Jaseb Chevalier yeah we'll need to do that but it's probably best to work that out once we've established a time and players.

Best to do that in January when the festive period is over. At which point I'll post about times etc and try and get something that will work for the most amount of ppl.

Then we'll start to figure out the finer points of the game, with all of the things you've mentioned. We can all vote on them - potentially on a discord channel, similar to the book club.

:)

I'd be interested. I change timezones with some regularity and am not sure about best times for me personally, but changes are decent I could make something work!

Hi All, just allowing more time for after the festive period for those who wish to respond can.

The way in which I imagine the next steps to be:

  1. Organise appropriate and convenient timezone for most amount of players
  2. Establish players
  3. Game period and location
  4. Character creation (there will need to be some discussion around this - can't have five engineers etc)
  5. Ship creation (this will heavily depend on the period and characters we opt for)
  6. Play schedule (set in advance regular times)
  7. GM to set out the first mission
  8. Play!

Live long and prosper my lovelies!

Precisely! I always wanted to, but never knew anyone who played 🙂

In terms of availability, Star Trek Adventures is a lovely system that allows for changing players quite well. It's also a game system where it's advantageous for some players to have two different characters, because it really isn't always a good idea for the Captain to go on Away Missions!

Thusly, it wouldn't be farfetched (depending on how many want to play), that the playing group can consist of different people from session to session.

In terms of availability, I'm in the GMT+1 timezone, but if sessions are placed on Fridays or Saturdays, I'm not opposed to making myself available at a time that suits our American/Australian friends better, in case the group schews more towards those timezones. (Have previously done this with a Vampire: the Masquerade-group, where I woke up at 03:00 every Sunday to play with my all-American group xD)

So, then I cannot reference to similarities (which is nothing bad) and recommed you at least first video from the STA mechanics series from Trek Tempest. If it will look hard, don't worry, I'm quite experienced D20 systems RPG games veteran, but with every a new game, there is always a new which make ashamed not to get at first 😁😅 So, as I did not played STA in group before, we will be in that altogether! 🤣

If you want to get an idea how playseasons within RPG can looks like in general, I can recommend you this podcast series about Red Alert / Paranoia (different game system) on Spotify, as this group of players is really nice to listen to (I did not find STA group playseason in podcast series, on on YT is playthrough season from Modiphius game creators, which is good, but a little artificial for me personally).

And not at last, to get into basics, I can recommed as well to take a look through the quickstart guide :)

1] GMT +1 generally. possible sometimes ... -2 up to +4 +-, depends on the work (so, I'm sleep deprivated enough to play whatever time you prefere)
3] I would like sometimes more modernish, around DS9-VOY period. Or ENT :D
4] COM/SCI
5] something around Voyager size, depends on the period

Hi All!

I have the below on my list that have responded the initial thread post:

@Alieth

@T'Mar/Mel

@TAma

@Jaseb Chevalier

@Ensign Sadar

@DrPsyPhi

Could you let me know which time zone you are currently in and which time zone you could play in (try and be as flexible as possible) and if you'd prefer weekends or midweek day (or any preference of days).

I'm keeping a file for tracking this and as we have a potential 6 players across two continents we may need to be creative with the playing times! Although we can make it work.

I've already started pulling some bits and pieces together for the actual game but I do want it to be as collaborative an experience as we can. So that being said, once I have an idea of timezone and participation I'll post some choices around setting and ship.

Then we can sort character creation and get the first session scheduled.

Don't forget to share with others on the fleet you may think might want to join in.

If we can have the timezone done by the 27th that would be great!

I'm in EST (GMT -5). I regretfully work an office job so I can only do weekday evenings 7pm to midnight, or Sundays any time.

Wow, quite a lot of responses! Which is a great thing!

So far, I think I may have some times that will suit everyone but I'll wait until next Saturday before posting to give everyone a chance.

In the meantime, you can watch some YouTube videos to familiarise yourself with the basic rules.

There is a playlist of five short videos which I highly recommend.

I'm US Central time zone (GMT -6). I can do anytime on the weekends, but at the moment I can't comfortably commit to weekdays due to a work project.

Hey Hey,

I'm a bit late to the party but I'd thought I'd poke my head in. I don't know how much capacity I have to play right now but I would love to one day. So perhaps I'm the backup. I did try to run the starter box which I enjoyed but the combat went over my head.

I'm in GMT+0 and weekends would be the easier one for me.
