Lhandon_Nilsen Posted February 2 Posted February 2 @Morro Caras showing us then when you deal with the Zet, you should always have an ad-block installed. I was laughing so much reading this sim. Quote (( Stellar Cartography, Deck 11, USS Octavia E Butler )) Lieutenant Junior Grade Morro Caras was attempting to find a way to reach his friends and crew mates on the surface of the planet. There was possible danger approaching the system that could complicate their mission. If they could coordinate they could possibly warn them as well as pass on crucial information. Caras: Then do you know anything that will just by our people on the surface time, Prince Grend? Are there any royal channels you can still use that you haven’t been blocked out of? Something that we can maybe use to stall or even spy on them? Grend: Let me access my Tidbitter. I can maybe us it to help you. I’ve got some drafts on there that need to go out and he can’t access my PM’s. No doubt there are those in the Royal HQ who are still loyal to me. I still have power and I can coordinate with them. Was he serious?... He was serious. Caras greatly despised those methods of communication. Forsyth: Yes, anything that could help would be useful right now. It was true. It was still a method of communication. Promontory: It’s better than nothing. We’ll take it. To Caras it was a single step above nothing. Unless they were really lucky. Caras: It will be like turning straw into gold, or finding a needle in a haystack, or maybe some other animal feed based fortune metaphor. Earthisms were still so weird to him, but he felt like he had gotten the hang of them enough to use them. Grend: What are you going to do once the fleet arrives? are you going to leave? oO he keeps suggesting that, what is his angle? Is he scared of them, what does he know about the fleet that we don’t know, now that we’ve scanned them? Oo Promontory: No. As long as our people are on the planet, it’s under our protection. Forsyth: Yeah, Starfleet never leaves one of theirs behind. Caras thought that there was a caveat to that. He had seen Starfleet officers leave their own behind. Not without deep regret, not without consequence. But he would never say “never” on that fact; he did however appreciate the optimism. Caras: We’re not cowards, and we’re not fools So that only leaves one thing we can be. Of all things he was quoting his own mother. Then again, she had a way of dealing with people who thought they were royalty. The answer to that quote was “right”. Promontory: Here’s the plan. We arm the torpedoes and set them at the vertices (highlighting points on the shape) and at random walks within these decagons. (beat) Basically, we turn them into mines. That, at least, should buy us some time. Caras nodded. He wasn’t really needed on that plan, tactical was not his forte, Though he did enjoy working tactically on shuttles, runabouts and smaller vessels. Larger ships overwhelmed him. He would let Forsyth and Promontory set that up. He’d deal with communications. Grend: With my Tidbitter, I can maybe use it to help you. If you connect to our communications satellites, you can use one of my private internet connections to access the network down below. Forsyth: I guess that could work. Caras: I’ll oversee that. With your approval, sir. Chances are this would be his least favorite task since coming aboard the OEB, and he had been on holodeck biofilter duty… once. Promontory: Response Grend: I suppose you can maybe use that to contact your people, but I don't know about them. ::tapping Promontory's combadge to make a chirp:: and how or if they connect to our internet. No doubt someone down there would also boast if they've taken any of your crew. My people love a good boast, you can use that too! Caras was annoyed for Promontory on that one. He covered his own combadge as a response. That was somewhere no one got to touch except himself. Caras: Once we’re connected I can use a standard algorithm to search the entire network for any “boasts” about capturing foreigners. We might even be able to make an account and boast to goad others into boasting. Promontory: Response Forsyth: How do we know that still works, the…false King might have blocked you from it. Caras figured there was only one way to find out, he also figured that the Zet might see it as an attack, despite they weren’t doing anything aggressive other than collecting data. They wouldn’t know unless they tried. Grend: I will, however, need my computer from before. From there, I will be able to give you the credentials. You do have an ad-block, right? Caras remembered all kinds of advertisements from his childhood. He even remembered his favorite jingle from the advertisement for Saccharine Crystal Polygons. 🎶“SCP, SCP, put them in your belly and gonna turn them into jelly. SCP, SCP, you won’t believe your eyes when you see the crystals rise. SCP, SCP, all the sweet goodness for you and me!”🎶 Morro was now humming the tune. Forsyth: I think so, Caras? Caras: We unfortunately don’t filter any the data due to its possible importance. We’ll have to manually set the filters. Promontory: Response He could tell all of them weren’t keen on the idea of giving the prince his computer back, but it seemed like the only way they were going to get eyes on the planet in a meaningful way. Forsyth: With the ship in its current state that might be difficult, could we use an isolating system? Caras: If I use the trick Lahl used earlier to isolate processes in the core, we can containerize the process for scanning through the media posts, that should suffice. Grend/Promontory: Response Grend was really pushing it. Once again. Give the prince a lightyear, he’d take a parsec. Forsyth: Prince, what else can you access from your computer? Grend/Promontory: Response Forsyth: What about security feed, someway we determine if our crew is okay. Now it felt like Alex was handing Grend ideas for him to try and take advantage of. Then again Alex really had no reason to believe the prince was currently acting maliciously. It was only a feeling that Caras had, they had no proof he planned to be a bad actor at this point. If it was in a report, everything the prince had done so far in custody would be seen as cooperative. Yet Caras couldn’t shake the feeling that the prince was trying to pivot all of this into a net win for himself on every level. His ego, his title, his fortune. Grend/Promontory: Response Caras: Nothing says we’re a hostile invader like that. If we get caught, They could turn that approaching fleet on us if we cause them enough trouble. Caras gave his advice, but it was up to the acting Captain. Getting access to global security networks was considered an act of war on most planets, and was grounds for hostile maneuvers on federation worlds. Grend/Promontory/Forsyth: Response Caras: I’m hooking the prince's computer up to the access layer. He just needs to have his computer pass through the access codes and credentials when prompted. Caras set up the computer for Grend’s use. Grend: Response Suddenly, advertisements started popping up in astrometrics, taking over some of the view area. Then some more, then some more. Advertisement: Are your lower limbs a little bit… lacking? Do they just not reach where you want them to? Does everyone tell you that it’s… normal? We’ll they’re wrong! I’m former Champion gambler Gau’zu’rak Bazkite here for Gylelkeset! Gylelkeset gets your lower limbs stronger, girthier, and more energetic. If you’ve seen me place bets, then you know I use my lower limbs as a flex.((advertisement goes on)) Promontory/Forsyth: Response Caras was shocked. He checked the systems, then he checked again. How did they get past? How did they get into the ship's computer? Was this his fault… how!? Then he found the answer. Caras: You guys have advertisements in your ACCESS CODES? It got past the containment layer because your computer is on top of containment to pass the credentials through. Caras was yelling at this point. He hadn't expected the Zet’s pure lust for capitalization to be so profound that it had invaded their most basic of functions. This was enough to make the Ferengi jealous. Morro Caras was both majorly disgusted and a little impressed. He was doing his best to setup the filters. But he just couldn't; there were too many. They would have to press on, with the ads. Caras felt sick and looked a little greener. This was embarrassing. Grend/Promontory/Forsyth: Response [Tags!/TBC] — Lieutenant JG Morro Caras Co Assistant Chief Engineer USS Octavia E.
