Doz Finch Posted December 13 Posted December 13 In the Sto'Vo'Kor lounge, @Samira Neathler and @Tahna Meru discuss their pets and what provisions to put in place in case they become assimilated. Sami suggests making sure that Tahna's pet has a unique signature stored on the ships computer, so that the pets can be easily traced if allowed to roam somewhere. Lt. Commander Samira Neathler - Flying pets Quote ((Sto'vo'kor, Deck 9, USS Gorkon)) After the encounter with the Borg, Samira found herself in Sto'vo'kor together with Tahna Meru. The conversation had given her a new partner to join her during her morning runs. How Samira couldn’t recall, but the conversation turned to religion, another topic she was not well versed in and meditation. Another subject they talked about was one she was more familiar with, as in somehow during her years on the Gorkon, she had obtained a pet in the form of a koala. There was one certainty, the animals would be safe from the Borg. The only problem would be who’d feed them or look after them. So even for the animals on the ship the future looked grim if the Borg conquered them. Neathler: As long as we can use the replicators on the ship to feed them, they should be fine. Don’t you think? Tahna: Replicators for food and water, and those can be set on a timer for them if we think…::She paused, frowned.:: If we think we might be away a while. The conversation had taken a bit of a sad tone again as both women were somehow lost in thought. What would happen with the pets if the Borg succeeded in assimilating them. Tahna’s posture made Samira believe the Bajoran was thinking similar thoughts. Yet the scientist had also mentioned an option Samira never used before, namely setting a timer to provide fresh leaves for Ko. So far she had always asked Meg to take of care Ko when she was not around to feed him and as a third option there was Makkor, even if she knew there was very little love and friendship between Ko and the Klingon or more precisely between the Klingon and Ko. Neathler: I never even considered a timer, I’ll have to look into that. Thank you for the tip. She could put some kind of construction under the replicator, even a smaller but sturdy eucalyptus tree came to mind, so Ko had the means to reach the content of the device. Tahna: I wonder how aware they are that something is wrong. The pets, I mean. Samira’s gaze briefly turned towards Tahna. Somehow the words confirmed something she had noticed with Ko recently. Maybe Tahna had noticed something similar with her pet. Neathler: I think they know. Somehow they pick up the underlying tension we all feel. Normally, Ko wouldn’t even move or open an eye when I walk into my quarters. But the other day it was like he knew something had happened. ::She paused for a brief moment.:: I still can’t put in to words the look he gave me. Tahna twisted her empty glass, a sign she was lost in thought. The ship itself moved forward towards the docking ring, unaware of the crew’s feelings. Tahna: I’m sure they’ve sensed their people are more stressed than normal, at least. They look after their caretaker’s mental wellbeing, I hope we can do the same for them. Stress is bad for all animals. Neathler: Is that a silent suggestion to take our pets towards that meditation walk? ::She grinned.:: We’ll certainly will have to do it on the ship then. She sat up, crossing her arms in front of her. Neathler: In case you ever want to take your pet off the ship, make sure the teleport system has his unique life signature on file. It’ll save you from a headache if he gets lost. Tahna: Response Neathler: I let him roam free, let him climb trees to his liking. Though I do bring his favorite snack with me, once he smells that, he usually comes my way. Of course it helps that he has a strict diet and there’s hardly any eucalyptus tree on foreign planets. At least I’ve not discovered any yet. Tahna: Response Neathler: And Ko can’t fly away, unlike,... ::She stopped, a winged feline didn’t mean it could actually fly. Birds like Tana could easily fly away, which would make it more difficult to get them back on the Gorkon.:: Guess I’m lucky I can take him planetside. ::She eyed both their empty glasses, maybe Tahna’s decision would be in her favor.:: Do you want another one?
