Popular Post + LuxaLorana Posted September 22 Popular Post Posted September 22 It's nice to see @Gila Sadar settle in nicely while guesting and getting to know @Karrod Niac 😂 being tortured by Captains is becoming a true personality trait!  Quote  ((The Chen-Ah Club, Back Room, Lower Promenade, DS9))    There were many ways that Gila’s first meeting with Captain Beardy could’ve gone down. Most of those had involved some degree of professionalism - reporting to a Bridge in turmoil because of extensive damage to ship systems, reporting to a Ready Room where the Captain in question sat behind a desk, haunted memories of battles and loss of life darkening his visage. NOT finding him in the backroom of a seedy restaurant in compromising attire while a Klingon Chef spoke animatedly about ... Something? Definitely not the casualty reports and systems diagnostics of the Ronin post-battle though.   Vailani: :: confused :: Captain … sir?   Vai-net’s voice made the Captain look up, and the immediate shift towards warmth almost made Gila want to charge out of the kitchen as a trauma response. A happy look on a Captain’s face was, in her experience, indicative of rapidly approaching terror.   Niac: Lieutenant! This is an unexpected surprise, I thought it would be weeks before you got back from Sol. Glad to see you on your feet. ::He gestured with an elongated kava root:: Who's your friend?   Sadar: ::pales:: Uhh- S-Sorry for disturbing you, Captain, but-   Not content with letting Gila’s anxiety derail the conversation, the ever stout and loyal Vai-net stepped forward to render introductions.   Vailani: :: steps forward :: Captain this is Doctor Gila Sadar from the USS Artemis. She’d like to offer her services to the Ronin and her crew :: looks to the dessert :: we were led to believe the situation was ‘dire and grave’. That's how they put it in the report. In fact I'm mistaken. ‘Incredibly dire and grave’ is more accurate.   oO I mean, if this is the Captain’s idea of R&R, I’d say the reports were accurate… That smell- Oo   Gila frowned. Was that a berry glaze? Before she had the window of opportunity to identify the kind of berry, and indeed whether it was even safe for her to be this close to the boiling glaze, Captain Niac stuck his hand out in a friendly gesture.   Talk about whiplash.   Niac: Nice to meet you Doctor, we'll take all the help we can get. Fortunately most of the critical cases have already been triaged and moved to specialized facilities but we still have hundreds of wounded to contend with between the Ronin and the Khitomer. To say nothing of the ships themselves. Speaking of Lieutenant I regret to inform you that your quarters on the Ronin are currently part of a large debris cloud orbiting Thirty Three. I'll make sure station operations finds you a berth if you haven't already arranged lodgings for yourself. Same goes for you Doctor. Speaking of, what's your specialty? Any chance you've got a background in cellular regeneration? A lot of my people are suffering from injuries related to very exotic radiation exposure.    Gila blinked as she slowly and timidly accepted the handshake, and quickly pulled her hand back again. She wondered if this Captain was always this talkative...   Sadar: O-Oh, uhh... ::struggles to keep up:: I-I’ll, uhh, thank you, Sir. M-My specialties are in Crisis Care and Trauma Surgery, unfortunately. I-I know some measure of radiology, of course, b-but I- I wouldn’t say I’m, uhh… ::looks to Vailani for help::   Vailani: Gila … Doctor Sadar is a good friend of mine and exceptionally good at what she does :: smiles towards Gila :: Even if she won't say so herself.   Gila almost felt like glaring at Vai-net, as the assistance rendered was not at all the kind of assistance she’d sought, but the damage had been done.   Niac: That's high praise coming from the Lieutenant, Doctor, I'll expect great things. Unfortunately you'll have no shortage of work while you're here. Speaking of Lieutenant, if you're cleared for duty I'd like you to check in with Lt. Cmdr. Alieth. Her team gathered a great deal of data during our last mission that I believe you'll find invaluable for that...special project I assigned you to.   Vailani: :: nods :: As you wish Captain.   Captain Niac seemed to consider something for a moment, before deciding on a course of action that Gila had feared from the very moment she saw that eyesore of a ‘cooking class’ sign beam it’s anxiety-inducing message onto the Promenade.   Niac: So tell me Doctor, can you cook? Cause this tart is a lot more complex than I was lead to believe and I could use a few extra sets of hands. You may not know this but the Lieutenant over here...::Karrod gestured with a whisk::...has quite a lot of mess hall experience.    Gila recalled Vai-net’s complaints about being assigned a lot of mess hall duty in response to her lack of adherence to the hierarchy - which, honestly, fair - but her momentary amusement at the idea of her friend stationed in a mess hall was completely sidelined by the overwhelming need to flee the scene as the Captain seemed to prepare to toss her straight into the berry glaze.   Sadar: C-Cook? I, uhh- I-I dabble, yes, b-but I’m not sure-   Gila felt every nerve in her body react with horror as the scent of acid and natural sweeteners started to twist and deform as the temperature reached an unreasonable level, and the glaze started to thicken and coagulate at the bottom of the pot.   Not a good texture for tarts.   Vailani: Do I smell … burning?   Niac: Dammit, that'll be the uttaberry's I was reducing for a glaze. Quick, you, Doctor, take this and start stirring like someone's life depended on it. Zoyara you're on prep, I need a dozen of these kava roots peeled, washed and prepped or I'm never going to get these damn things done.    Gila caught the whisk that was chaotically whirled in her direction, and stared at her friend with a reprimand in her eyes.   Sadar: ::anxious whisper:: Is he always like this!?   Vailani: Response   Then, the two of them were away, slaving away under the joviality of the bearded Captain. The Captain himself seemed to enjoy their misery, and all of a sudden, Gila felt a lot more comfortable in the situation. At least now it was familiar!   Niac: I never have good luck with desserts, I don't know what it is. Rostil is grumbling about it in the back of my mind like it's my fault somehow and he was the master chef.   Captain Niac started kneading some tough on the table, while Gila did her utmost to save the berry glaze from a premature cremation.   Niac: So how is Captain MacKenzie? I haven't seen her since we both served together on the Excalibur. I assume she glared her way through the catastrophe in Sol without so much as a misplaced hair?   Sadar: I, uhh, I-I’m not sure, Sir. I was on temporary assignment to the USS Kitty Hawk while on Earth, but, uhh... Her, eh, Ready Room got blown up? She was still giving our XO a hard time about it when I... When I left.   Vailani: Response   Captain Niac chuckled in response, and Gila reckoned that he probably knew Captain MacKenzie quite well in order for that to be his response. With that realization, his enjoyment of the miserable situation he’d pushed Gila and Vai-net into also made a lot more sense. Perhaps unjustly terrorizing junior officers was part of some secret directive that the brass were handed upon their promotions?   Niac: Sounds like she hasn't changed much...I swear if there was any officer in the fleet who could win a staring contest against the Borg Queen I'd bet real money on her. ::He glanced at the simmering cauldron of uttaberries and sighed in relief:: Good job Doctor, I think you've saved this patient. Reduce the heat by twenty percent and then grab yourself an apron, I've got plenty more for you to do.   Gila’s face fell as she realized that a ‘good job’ meant ‘more work for you’ in every corner of Starfleet. Usually, she didn’t mind. She was the type to happily take extra shifts - make herself useful - but usually, those shifts involved PADDwork or Sickbay duty or house calls. NOT making dessert tarts while a Klingon screamed in the distance.   Sadar: B-But, Captain, I-I’m not sure I-   Vailani/Niac: Response   Sadar: ::sighs:: One day...   oO One day, I’ll meet a sensible Captain. Oo   Vailani/Niac: Response   Sadar: N-Nothing. ::deep breath as she puts on the apron and turns about:: D-Doctor Sadar, reporting for duty, Captain Niac.   Vailani/Niac: Response     TAGS/TBC     LT Gila Sadar  Medical Officer  USS Artemis-A  A240006GS1   -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "USS Ronin – StarBase 118 Star Trek PBEM RPG" group.
