JP Cdre Jalana Rajel & PNPC Sen. Cmdr Nugra - We could have been best friends (Pt 2)

As much suspense there was in the build up of part one, @Jalana and @Dizmim ChNilmani really killed it with the drama here!

… And now the continuation …

(( Corridor - USS Constitution ))

Rajel: Oh you’ll love this. One of the Officers down there, I think Operations, transformed into a bird in front of us to reach a higher space. That was quite a view.

The Hinji? Jalana and Nugra had seen plenty of Hinji. If he remembered correctly, Jalana had negotiated peace between the Hinji and the Linara, so it should not have been such a surprise.

Nugra: I see. That sounds like it would have been interesting to see.

The two took a corner as they continued down the corridor. Jalana briefly looked forward, checking out the labels, to orient herself but then focused back on the Gorn.

Nugra: We have an interesting crew. Don’t we?

Rajel: Quite. ::She nodded, though the usual enthusiasm was missing.:: It’s a mix of fascinating species.

Nugra: Any plans to return to the station? I was thinking we might need a stronger security detail.

Rajel: Pretty sure I’ll go back down to continue the updates between Captain Va and myself. I would hate to pull security details from where it is actually needed.

Nugra: I’m just concerned about if the enemy returns. Can’t be too careful, correct?

Rajel: They will return in ships most likely. Meanwhile have you seen the reports of unrest due to the events in the Sol System? Security is needed here.

The Gorn continued to follow her, once more around a corner through a doorway, his mind racing and trying to keep up with the conversation. They were verbally fencing. Nugra did not think she was on to him but he couldn’t take any chances.

Nugra: There are regulations, Commodore.

Rajel: I will be fine, don’t you worry your head off.

That was his job. The Gorn’s job was to worry about everything, especially now. Every part of him screamed that there was something wrong, even with the evidence that was presented, his brain still refused to think otherwise since it was Jalana standing in front of him.

Who else could it be? There was no sign of any enemy, why would this be anything but her? The war inside him raged as they continued to walk in silence.

The Trill nodded ever so slightly to the Gorn and then stepped up to him, raising a hand to pat his chest. A familiar gesture, accompanied with familiar words, which made him wonder when she had picked that up. Was she really in there? Was this a sign that she was trying to come out?

Rajel: You worry too much, you know. You should relax more.

Nugra: It is my job to worry about my friends.

She chuckled ever so slightly and then handed him the PADD back he had given her.

Rajel: Would you be so kind to send that to my terminal? I don’t want to rob you of your trusted PADD.

It was at that moment, the gesture, the comment, the tone, everything had added up. The Gorn Senior Commander felt the cold chill in his spine that told him everything he had needed to know.

Nugra did what he was told, more out of subconsciousness as his mind raced to decide his next course of action. It was already too late to stop what she had just done and even though he was larger than her, he had a feeling that he was no match if he tried to get physical. This Jalana had planned things perfectly.

As he looked down to do that, Jalana took a few steps the way they had come, in a strolling page and looked down to her hand, his comm badge resting in it.

Rajel: Tell me… ::She began, stashing the badge away.:: … What gave me away?

Nugra: ::sighing:: I had my suspicions when you did not know Jalana’s commanding officer’s name. I could have chalked that up to confusion but the Hinji, the use of people’s ranks were all damning. As Terrans say, ‘the final screw in the bed’ was that you never used my name. You don’t know my name. Jalana knows my name. Jalana loves using my name.

As Jalana listened to Nugra, a small but bitter laugh crossed her lips that did not sound like the Trill at all -foreign and like the grimace of smiles- then she smacked her tongue.

Rajel: Shame! This went so well.

Nugra: Unfortunately. You are a clever intruder. Who are you?

As he turned around the Trill tilted her head and shook it slightly.

Rajel: Now that would be telling, wouldn’t it.

She raised her hand and placed it on the panel next to the doorway, just then it became clear to Nugra that she was outside the room, and he was not. The door panel swooshed close, allowing her to look through the round window into the airlock.

The Gorn was not paying attention. He had been so focused on the conversation and identifying his prey, he had walked right into one of the airlocks. With himself on the side of the exit.

Nugra: oO Krr’Mkk! You are getting slow in your old age. Oo

Rajel: Shame you had to be so curious. We could have been /best/ friends.

The smile washing over her face was chilling, ice cold despite its apparent friendliness, it didn’t reach her eyes. It was that kind of smile that made you realize that the person wearing it had no qualms about ending your life. She pressed a couple of keys on her panel. Then she raised a hand, wiggled her finger at him through the window and turned to leave.

Computer: Airlock set to open in 120 seconds.

Nugra: :: warning :: Pray to your gods you kill me first. If not, I’ll be coming for you.

Rajel:  Toodledoo, good luck! ::She called out in a sing sang voice before she was out of sight and earshot. Then she pressed her badge for a brief message.:: =/\= Rajel to Herren. It’s time. =/\=

Herren: =/\= Response =/\=

Meanwhile in the airlock the computer did not care about any of that.

Computer: Warning. EVA suit is recommended before exiting the airlock.

Nugra: oO No drak. Oo

This was not the time to insult the machine.  He immediately moved towards the panel. He tapped it and found that the security lock was in place. The lizard could not override the controls from his side. Anger exploded through him. A rage he had not felt in years. The abject darkness and horror that had once been called Krr’Sakk, the Admiral of Skulls. His rage came out as he brought his fist heavily down on the door causing the entire frame to shake.

No. He had to think. He had time. There was always something he could do. The unknown intruder had locked down the ability for him to override the countdown sequence on his side and he had lost his commbadge. The Gorn had even taken off his arm gauntlet and left it back in the office that had his secondary communicator in it.

Computer: Warning EVA suit is recommended before exiting the airlock. Airlock will open in 90 seconds.

oO Think! Oo

Something had to come to mind. Something because he couldn’t just leave Jalana to her fate. He had lost enough people. He wasn’t going to lose more!

oO Think! What would Jalana say? Oo

She’d tease him about brute forcing his way through and trying to mow down anything in his path. She would have told him to quit relying on himself and ask for help.

oO That’s it! Oo

Tapping on the panel, he found that the secondary functions were still operating. Using his credentials, he quickly re-routed a packet protocol and tied it into the engineering subsystem. He converted the panel into a short range communicator that could only speak with engineering.

Nugra: =/\= Nugra to engineering! =/\=

Engineering: response

Nugra: =/\= Shut down all the airlock processes on the starboard side of the ship! =/\=

Computer: Warning EVA suit is recommended before exiting the airlock. Airlock will open in 30 seconds.

Engineering: response

Nugra: =/\= Do not ask questions. Do what I told you. NOW! =/\=

Computer: Warning EVA suit is recommended before exiting the airlock. Airlock will open in 10 seconds.

Engineering: response

Nugra spun around and pressed his back against the door. He knew that there were hatches along the hull of the Galaxy Class starship and his species was hardy. Good lung capacity, resilient to a lot of things. The Gorn knew his odds were extremely low but if he could get to one of the hatches, he could possibly get in before dying from asphyxiation. He continued to rapidly breath in and out to saturate his blood with oxygen. He couldn’t hold his breath. The depressurization would blow his lungs out.  He dug his claws into the metal to keep himself from being ejected. This had to be controlled or he’d be dead.

Computer: Warning EVA suit is recommended before exiting the airlock. Airlock will open in 5 seconds.

Senior Commander Nugra pushed out his breath, gripped the metal and waited for the hatch in front of him to open. It…did not.

Nugra: =/\= Anytime now! =/\=

Computer:  Airlock will open in …4 ... 3…2…1…

Engineering: response
