Lt. Cmdr. Alex Brodie “The Slightly Nervous Centre”

Everything about this sim makes me jump for joy. @Alexander Brodie has a wonderful way with words.

I just want to highlight a few lines before I share the whole thing.

It was more than that though, exponentially more. When people talked about command and control, they thought about the bridge but that was only partially true. That was where the Captain issued her orders… but those commands needed to be routed through the computer cores, communicated to the crew and systems adequately equipped to execute them.

The bridge might be the brain, but this was the nervous system that tied it all together…and this was the core cortes of that.

Suddenly, every ops simmer is Brodie's biggest fan. He just got it. *chefs kiss*

Now he was close to the slightly unkempt Nilsen; he could see the slight twinkle in his pale blue eyes…a live intelligence behind them – as if connections were constantly being made and then rewired.

The simmer behind brodie knows what I am going for with this little arc and has set me up PERFECTLY for what I want to write next. An absolute gift he has given me

Here is the full sim, I have been inspired to up my game. LOVE LOVE LOVE this

“The Slightly Nervous Centre”

((Operations Centre, Deck Five, USS ‘Oumuamua))

Alexander Brodie, now fully dressed in a proper uniform so as to not look totally out of place, was wandering. He’d always preferred the personal touch – why make a holo-call when you can see people face to face?

He also needed to get a feel for the ship again after his time away. There had been changes in personnel and that changed the character of a place, and it was his job…one of his jobs…to keep that on an even keel. It seemed, from the video package at the party, they had affectionately termed the ship…he grimaced internally…the ‘Moo-Moo’…and whilst he vowed to never use the term himself, who was he to argue?

He knew that the power of positivity could go a long way and they’d clearly made the house a home…or rather the ship…a shop…no, that wasn’t right…

Brodie: ::sotto voce:: Yeah…that needs work…

On the matter of houses and homes, and things needing work, he had found himself following a cluster of the crew wearing gold acting as a living convoy to the operations centre. He followed them to their eventual destination and saw Toxin Arlill, who he had met extremely briefly before his departure – his facial hair trimmed in a precision fashion – in conversation with a taller, younger and somewhat ruffled man he didn’t recognize beyond the leaving party.

There was also a dark haired woman there, again another face he’d yet to fully place a name to.

Nilsen: You know, if you told first year me that I’d be excited for this and wearing gold. ::slight laugh:: I dunno what he’d say

Arlill: I’m pretty sure a young Toxin would have his skepticism too. (beat) Let’s test out the other operational systems, my goal is to have everything online before we disembark.

The man with the Bolian blue skin made a few adjustments to a panel and a klaxon went off. Brodie raised an eyebrow but the smile on Arlill’s face suggested this was a desired outcome.

Sherlock: Gentleman.

Nilsen/Arlill: response

Sherlock: I trust everything's ::looking around at the consoles that still weren't active:: well, mostly everything's running right?

Nilsen/Arlill: response

Sherlock: Me? Oh, just Security stuff.

Nilsen/Arlill: response

Alex stepped forward from he perch by the door.

Brodie: Nothing wrong with a little scepticism…contentment is the enemy of invention after all.

Sherlock/Nilsen/Arlill: Responses

He thought back to when Avander had arrived and the first thing that he’d done was completely refit and redesign the intelligence suite to his own specification and needs. It had been a bit of a labour of love but it made sense. That was doubly true with the operations centre; after all, how would you be able to find anything unless this group knew where it was?

It was more than that though, exponentially more. When people talked about command and control, they thought about the bridge but that was only partially true. That was where the Captain issued her orders… but those commands needed to be routed through the computer cores, communicated to the crew and systems adequately equipped to execute them.

The bridge might be the brain, but this was the nervous system that tied it all together…and this was the core cortes of that.

He looked around the room – it was chaotic but there was an order underneath that was starting to shine through. There was an air of nervousness but it felt controlled, purposeful, like something was being built with a clear goal in mind.

Brodie: I love what you’ve done with the place.

Sherlock/Nilsen/Arlill: Responses

Brodie: No, I’ve not had the pleasure. ::He extended a hand:: Alexander Brodie, counsellor…recently returned to the 'Oumuamua.

Now he was close to the slightly unkempt Nilsen; he could see the slight twinkle in his pale blue eyes…a live intelligence behind them – as if connections were constantly being made and then rewired.

Sherlock/Nilsen/Arlill: Responses
