Halloween Avatar Contest 2015 winners

Happy Halloween my friends! This year we really did it in style. From Zombie rockstars to Mad Scientists to a Creepy Carnival that’s still giving me nightmares, this was a great year for our avatar contest. Thanks to everyone who participated, especially those who created the avatars and those who helped their crewmates to check-in and don their costume.

THE JUDGES
This year there were three judges:

1. Myself, FltAdml. Wolf
2. Eilidh Douglas Montgomery, First Officer of the USS Alba which is part of the Scottish Chapter for STARFLEET international fan club.
3. Richard Evans, founder, creator, and owner of RISA social media website​.

THE SCORING
The judges reviewed all the avatars in the check-in threads. They ranked all the participants in two categories from one to eight, with one being the lowest score and eight the highest. The two categories were Originality and Design. The scores in each category were then added together and multiplied by the participation score. (So if 80% of the crew participated, then your scores were multiplied by 80%.)

We did not choose a “best in show” this year.

RUNNERS-UP
Setting aside the participation score just for a moment, StarBase 118 Ops Zombie Rockstars won the Originality category! Congratulations to them for putting together such a unique theme!

I’m also going to announce the second-place team in the Design category since the first-place winner in this category won the whole competition. Congratulations to the Constitution crew for the classic presidential design avatars – the clean, simple designs wowed the judges.

GRAND PRIZE WINNERS
And now to our overall winners! Although this team came in second place in the Originality category, they won the Design category, and even before assessing the participation score on other crews (this crew had 100% participation), their two scores together was the clear winner in the overall score. And with the participation score weighting, this team was practically sitting on Frankenstein’s shoulders. Winning the 2015 Halloween Avatar Contest handily: Darwin’s Mad Scientists!

THE PRIZES
SB118 Ops’ Zombie Rockstars and Constitution’s Presidents will each receive runners-up badges.

Our winners, the Darwin’s Mad Scientists, will receive winning team badges.

Unfortunately we don’t have these for you just yet – we hope to have them out within the next two weeks.
