::Par had been doing his best to help Reynolds and Eete make it back to consciousness. He sent to them telepathically, trying to guide them back to reality, and for a few seconds, had felt some sort of reply, however distant from them both. He had alerted Doctor Hathaway to the situation::

    Hathaway: And their thought patterns?

    Salen: hmmm...

Salen: Oh yes, ummm, minimal, could you check the EEG for me, I'd like to know if their brainwaves have changed from the Alpha-theta cycling ?

Hathaway: ::checking:: Not appreciably, though there are slight changes in the....

Eete: oO Who are you? I know your voice...who are you? Where are you?Oo

::Par nearly jumped..it was Eete, weak sounding, miles away it seemed, but still..He opened himself more, allowing her thoughts to flow to him, waiting for something..he sensed Eete in some sort of turmoil, slipping away, even as Reynolds seemed to be growing closer and closer to consciousness. ::

Salen:<< Eilis, it's me, Counselor Salen..Par, come back Eilis, reach out..catch my thoughts..>> ::Par grit his teeth focusing hard on sending Eete as much guidance to make her way back as he could. ::

    Eete: oO I can't move! I can't move! Oo

Salen: <<hold on Eete, try again, don't stop trying...please don't stop !>> ::Par didn't notice the tears forming in his eyes, mingling with his sweat from his brow.::

::Par saw Eete's body start to convulse and spasm on the biobed, her vital signs were all over the place ! He forced himself to bring words to his lips, not panicing, ignoring his fear for her..:: Hathaway, Prox, anyone ! Give Eete a mild sedative, NOW !! One of you please take over monitoring Reynolds, Prox can you do it ?

Hathaway: Prox is helping Satscher; another emergency just came in. You have me, though.

::Par removed his hand from Reynold's forehead and placed it on Eete's cold, delicate skin. He closed his eyes again, entering her consciousness again..filtering her random thoughts and images as he delved deeper, sinking towards her core, past her surface layers of demeaner, recent memories..desires..He saw images start to flash by him faster and faster, things became colder the deeper he went, more still. Finally he saw it. A massive Grey-white, billowing wall, smoke-like in a way. He knew what that barrier was. He pushed through it, feeling it push back against his mind, resist his astral form, surround him, envelope him, trying to digest him to excrete him from this level of her psyche. Gradually, he felt himself becoming intwined with her "core"..her inner most being, fighting to keep himself separate from her though. It was difficult, seductive in a way, losing yourself by blending with another.::

::He eventually made his way through the barrier, more or less intact as himself, and looked around her dreamscape...where was she ?::

    ((Dreamscape-Eete))

Salen:<< Eete, its Par..I'm here, look around..you can see me..come to me Eilis, hurry ! I've come to take you home.>> ::he called to her as he saw the gossamer form of Eete's dreamself shimmer and glow softly, it shifted between an approximation of the Eete he had met and that of a scared and lost looking little girl with big, sad eyes.::

Eete: oO I want to go home...Oo

::As he felt her fears and something else..something diseased.. envelope him, he pushed himself deeper into the reality she had created in her own mind..losing his tenuous grip on the outside world for the time being. As he did so, his body went limp and he slowly slid down onto the biobed with Eete on it, his form limp, eyes clinched tightly shut. Par's hands were still firmly planted on Eete's face and forehead. His breathing became irregularly irregular, as did his heartbeat...signs that in some fashion he was deep into Stage Rem.::

:: He'd almost been expecting it, actually. Another mistake, another

wrong decision by a Reaper who should, above all else, know better.

He'd shifted his attention to the young Starfleeter, the one with the

longest head-fur. Consciously, he hadn't wanted to, but his lack of a

power source and his extreme anger over the Avora Summoner's breaking

combined to shift the brunt of his attack on her. He compelled her, he

knew: She walked toward him, ignoring her compatriots, singing all the

    while. He smiled.

He was foolish. The other Starfleeters were still there, after all,

and without his full focus on them as well, one of them had knocked

him to the floor. He rolled over to stare at the ceiling, his reaping

mindset broken, with the voices of the Avor and the other Reapers so

    far away....

He wasn't completely out, though; as before, even though he appeared

unconscious, he could still perceive what was happening around him,

even if he couldn't act. In this case, he could see the Starfleeters

moving warily at the edge of his vision. More important, though, were

his fellow Reapers, fallen and useless around him. Obsidian shapes,

nothing more, with even the light points of their eyes fading-

Wait. He forced himself to concentrate, even though doing so was

enough to nearly enough to send him into full unconsciousness. It

wasn't just their eyes that were fading, it was their bodies! The

station's hold on normal space was tenuous as best, and it was

beginning to fade away - and it was taking them with it! They were

    going to fail, *again*.

Well. Not if Ritar, Fourth of the Illustrious and All-Powerful Father,

had anything to say about it. His reaping powers were gone, he was

phasing involuntarily, and he could barely move his physical body, but

there was one weapon left to him.

His plan would proceed on schedule: He would use whatever power he had

left to stretch out and touch the Avor, and use them to destroy half

the ship. The Starfleet resistance would end, and even though they

might lose some Reapers - Lonsad, perhaps, and the other tech-minds,

thanks to their presence in the power core - it would be for the good

of the race! The greater good! Who would argue with him? Not Dodhun,

not if they escaped from the Erati prison. Not even the Father Himself.

He reached out, feeling as he had before, touching each Avor one at a

time, gradually bringing the entire network under his control. Once he

had enough of them listening, he gave them a simple command, one even

their limited collective mind could comprehend:

    Destroy.

But in return, he didn't hear the whisper against his mind that said,

Yes. Destroy. Instead, he heard something completely unique, something

the Avor had never dared to say.

    No. ::

::The pain resonated through the young Vulcans body, the shot had been

excruciating. The familiar walls blurred, vanishing from view as they

were replaced by a place he'd seen once before, a place he'd visited

when he'd been unconscious after a Jefferies Tube accident over two

    years previously::

::The suns shone brightly overhead, their strong rays baking the desert

around him as Salak looked upon the temple. The same Vulcan text was

upon the walls, but something seemed different. Amongst the swirling

sand, he could hear the faint echoes of voices from within.::

Priest: Kashkau, wuhkuh eh teretuhr; Estuhn wi ri estuhn, K'wuhli wi ri

    k'wuhli

((Translation: Our minds, one and together; touching yet not touching,

    apart yet never apart))

::The voices were clearer, coming from the chamber just a few metres

away. Salak peered briefly around the corner then listened to the

gathered; a Vulcan Priest, melding with two Vulcan youths whom seemed

accompanied by their respective families. It all seemed so familiar,

yet so remote at the same time. A niggling doubt entered his mind, had

he been here before only in dream?::

Young Male: Estuhn wi ri estuhn, K'wuhli wi ri k'wuhli

((Translation: Touching yet not touching, apart yet never apart))

Young Female: Estuhn wi ri estuhn, K'wuhli wi ri k'wuhli

((Translation: Touching yet not touching, apart yet never apart))

::Salak watched as the link was broken, the three minds seperated as

the ceremony concluded. He recognised it, the ceremony was a key part

of Vulcan society, yet he struggled to remember his own... How come?

Why? Had he even been through it, given his upbringing on Andor?::

    Priest: ...sochya eh dif

((Translation: ...Peace and long life. (OOC: I've quite deliberately

    missed a bit out)))

Both Young Vulcans: Dif-tor heh smusma

    ((Translation: Live long and prosper))

::The glow of lamps filled the room, the two young Vulcans, each

perhaps 7 years old, elegantly dressed in fine robes. Salak peered once

more, the young male's mother holding a newborn baby. She seemed so

familiar, for good reason. It was then that the young males father

spoke; his father... Vorak. Was Salak's mind playing tricks, or was

    this a memory?::

:: Lily watched as everyone went about their tasks. The alien's

presence seemed to have given everyone a bit of a second wind, and

there were no signs of unwarranted procedures or rash actions. Indeed,

Lily felt a bit like a fifth wheel, and so she stepped over towards

Hayden, who was still squatting and scanning the visitor. ::

    H. Reynolds: ::on Lily's approach:: It's amazing, Lily, really. Its

biology is completely unique. I mean, there's nothing like it anywhere

in the databases. This data ::showing the tricorder's screen for a

moment:: could keep Starfleet biologists happy for ten years, easy.

:: Lily smiled down at him. She'd rarely seen him glow like this, and

in the company of the alien, it was an almost-tangible aura that

surrounded him. She was reminded in a moment why she loved him and,

not for the first time, longed for a future where all of this was

finished. She caught herself, though: All of what? This danger? This

mission? She sighed, but low, so Hayden didn't hear. The fear, the

worry, the risks.... Some days, muddling through was all she could do. ::

Ventu: At least our friend's a little more amenable now.

    H. Reynolds: It certainly is.

:: Lily gave him an pat on the shoulder, then felt a little awkward -

what was he, her pet? He grinned up at her, though, which she took as

"no harm done." Her comm badge beeped a moment later, and she stepped

    away to answer it. ::

Somers: =/\= Tactical to Commander Ventu =/\=

Ventu: =/\= Ventu. Go ahead, Ensign. =/\=

Somers: =/\= What is the current status of the Alien?

Ventu: =/\= No change. We're preparing to try and ... er, feed it, but

it seems passive enough for now. ::curiously:: Why do you ask? =/\=

Somers: =/\= I am asking as Commander Riley wants to know and because

we are receiving a Communications of sorts from Admiral Anassasi back

    at the Colony=/\=

Ventu: =/\= ::surprised:: From Wheeler? =/\=

Somers: =/\= Yes, it seems that with our ship fully fixed, we may be

getting home sooner than expected =/\= ::She replied::

Ventu: =/\= That *is* good news. Keep me posted, Ensign, especially if

anything happens that might disrupt our visitor. =/\=

Somers: =/\= Affirmative Commander, Tactical out =/\=

:: She tapped the channel closed and turned back to Hayden and the

alien, only to find Quinn waiting for her. ::

Reynolds: We can go on your mark.

:: In her fingers, Lily felt a thrill that was quite unrelated to any

of the specifics of the situation. There was no way to know for

certain what would happen when they plugged the alien with energy - it

could work out wonderfully, in which case she'd've made the right

decision, but it could also go bad, ending with the destruction of the

ship. Everyone's lives could be in her tingling hands. She took a deep

breath. What else could be done? What else could she say? ::

    Ventu: Let's do it.

:: Quinn, however, seemed to appreciate the magnitude of the

situation. She understood the minutiae, certainly, better than Lily

did, and could come up with more plausible scenarios of how things

    could misfire. ::

Reynolds: Lily... If this goes wrong, ejecting the core will prevent

catastrophic damage to the Independence. ::She paused, a faint frown

    on her

brow as she continued, her voice much quieter.:: I don't... I don't know

what effect that could have on the alien. It might be able to survive in a

    vacuum, but...

Ventu: Can't we just ... disconnect it? If things go wrong?

    :: Quinn shrugged awkwardly. ::

Reynolds: I can't say what effect abruptly ending the procedure would

    have on

    it.

    Ventu: Ah.

:: More variables in their ever-growing equation. Still, they'd come

this far, and there were always variables. Always. ::

Reynolds: I'm ready if you're ready.

    Ventu: I am.

    Reynolds: Alright then.

:: Lily went back to Hayden, even though it meant the resurgence of

the headaches. She tapped his back. ::

Ventu: Quinn's ready to start. Let's back up.

    H. Reynolds: Just a moment.

    Ventu: ::annoyed:: Now, Hayden.

:: He didn't acknowledge her verbally this time, but she could see the

frown on his face as he duck-walked back a few steps. She joined him

as the plasma flow began. She wasn't sure what she was seeing in terms

of its technicality, but she banked on Quinn and the others knowing

what they were doing, and the alien's receptiveness to their gift. She

wasn't disappointed: Within a few seconds, the alien began to glow

brighter. Gravity seemed to have given up on it, too, as the alien

lefts its fallen state and began to ascend. It glowed even brighter -

healthier, if she was any judge of the theoretics - and then brighter

still. Lily remembered being on a star-survey mission and staring at a

blue dwarf on the viewscreen. Even that couldn't compare to the light

show she was seeing now, though - it was as though the entirety of

Earth's sky had been compressed into the bright being hovering a few

feet away. As it continued to glow, though, she felt the wave of pain

beginning to grow back, too. The alien sparkled brighter, and she had

to put a hand to her temple to reassure herself that there wasn't, in

fact, anything lodged in there. ::

    H. Reynolds: -ha- -s --?

:: She could barely hear him, though he was right next to her. The

whole of Engineering had been filled with a howling that she was sure

no one else could hear. The alien grew brighter still, sparkling like

a diamond on fire, and, though eyes that were already tearing again,

she realized that the blue was expanding. Then, with a soundless

explosion, the blue blew out from the alien and through the room,

through the people, through the ship. ::

    Ventu: Stop. Stop. Stop!

:: She couldn't stand. She heard nothing but the howling, couldn't

see, couldn't think of anything but the pain. She felt her knees hit

    the deck, and then....

    Then....

It stopped. The pain was gone, and she was floating. Floating? Yes,

she realized, as she felt her senses restored after their floods of

information and pain. She was in space, alone, looking down on three

ships, all Federation, as well as several smaller ones. She could see

the armada, too, but it was to the Federation ships that she looked. A

blue pulse rammed its way out and through the Independence to

encompass all the other vessels, turning the vacuum into an ocean of

light. In that moment, she was caught up in it, too, and she felt her

basics: Scalp-[...]ling happiness. A full-body wash of joy. And the

heart-growing sense of love. She smelled the fields of her childhood

home again, and felt the tang and sweetness of an nonexistent

strawberry in her mouth. More than anything, though, she watched. She

didn't try and understand, didn't try to judge. She watched.

And in that moment of watching, of opening, she heard a voice: ::

oO Thank you, Federation. You have given my people a chance

for love, peace, and independence. May joy and peace always be with

    you...a gift to you....Home. ..Oo

:: The light grew brighter still, folding in around the vessels below

her and warping them, doubling and tripling into them. It grew too

bright to look, and in the last moment, she closed her eyes.

The moment they were closed, she felt something beneath her. She

opened them again, and stared at the deckplate she was resting on. She

felt ... fine? Yes, she did. She pushed herself up, and looked around.

She was back in Main Engineering (but had she ever left?). Around her,

nearly everyone else was on the floor. Some were stirring and some

weren't. There was no sign of the alien. ::

    Ventu: Is everyone all right?

    RESPONSES

    Ventu: Hayden?

:: Luckily, he was getting up, too, though he looked about like she

    felt. ::

Ventu: Can you make sure everyone's all right?

:: He nodded, and she tapped her badge. ::

Ventu: =/\= Ventu to bridge. =/\=

Riley: =/\=Riley here Ventu, go ahead.=/\=

Ventu: =/\= What ... what happened? Where are we? =/\=

Riley: =/\= It appears we have gone back through the wormhole

and are near our original location. What is the status of the alien?

    =/\=

    Ventu: =/\= The alien's gone. =/\=

Riley: =/\=Understood. What about the status of the crew?=/\=

Ventu: =/\= We were a little harder hit down here. I think ... ::she

took a breath:: I think we're all all right. =/\=
