[Round 1] Top Sims Contest Discussion
Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf replied to Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf's topic in 2008
I'm not sure what you mean by "post their parts"? If you're talking about dialogue in sims, you do not need anyone's permission to post a sim, or fill in dialogue tags. You can use any sims from Monday, 1-21 through this round's submission end date. -
Based on the recent discussion regarding the Top Sims Contest, I've revived it and revamped it. For more information, please see the Top Sims Contest website area. Information on how to submit/rating/vote is all on that site. As the topic description states, the submission period for this round closes on Sunday, 02-17. No late submissions accepted. Hopefully, I will not have to say this more than one time: please find a balance between "too much" and "too little" on the submission end of this contest. Don't submit every post from your crew. But I DO encourage everyone to submit at least one post to the contest whenever they can. Last week there were approximately 450 sims in the fleet - an average of 64 a day. I would expect no more than five or six a day to be considered "Top Sim" worthy. REMEMBER: This is NOT a popularity contest. We welcome submissions of your crewmate's sims, but ALL sims should be rated based on their MERIT, and NOT the fact that someone is your crewmate. Any crews found "stuffing the ballots" or ratings, will be disqualified PERMANENTLY - yes, that means the whole crew. Want your crewmates to win more? Nominate only the best sims, and encourage higher quality sims!

Because this is the first round, and I've changed a lot of the permissions and features of this forum, there may be some things that don't work properly, and need to be fixed. EVERYONE should be able to... ... create new topics (even Junior Members); ... rate all topics in this forum; ... reply to all posts. If you find that you cannot do one of the things listed above, DO NOT FREAK OUT. Just because you can't submit a nomination, or rate a post, does NOT mean I am singling you out for disciplinary punishment. Don't private message me, like everyone always does when something goes wrong, and beg for forgiveness, berate me angrily, or question my motives. All this means is that I may need to adjust the permissions for your user group or fix the forum's settings. It's something I can fix in 10 seconds. To help me fix the problem faster, please respond to this thread with the problem. ONLY private message me if it turns out that you can't post a reply here. Thanks!

[2008: JAN-FEB] Writing Challenge Rules & Topic

BTW: Banners are up for last round's winners - http://www.starbase118.net/members/events/...s/nov-dec07.php We will also no longer be doing a page for each event on our main site (like the one above). From now on, the "list of challenges & winners" will list all the rounds, and point directly to the forums/sub-forums of note. All old pages will still, but they're just too cumbersome to have to create in general, so no more from here on out. -
Guidelines: To participate, create a new thread. The subject of the thread must be the title of your story. If it is a Work In Progress, denote that with the heart post icon. If your work is complete, use the horizontal arrow post icon. Items not marked with an icon or marked with the WiP icon will not be considered for judging and will be moved to the "Character Cafe" forum at the end of the contest. Your work must be entirely your own. No co-authoring. You are welcome to create any character you so desire, but they must be from the Star Trek universe. No "canon" characters allowed. (i.e.- No one who has been on a show.) Want to participate, but can't start a new topic? Why didn't you view the "Read Me First!" forum? You'll need to ask a moderator or Senior Member to create a thread for you! Length: No more than 3000 words accepted. Beginning Date: Wed., Jan. 30th Ending Date: Sun., Feb. 24th See Also: the Writing Challenge Website Challenge: "Secret events" Pretty simple this time around -- plenty of chance to be creative. Nov. 12th Ending Date: Fri., Dec. 21st See Also: the Writing Challenge Website Challenge: "What if the Dominion had won?" We all know that Good triumphed over Evil at the end of the Dominion War, with the resourceful StarFleet soundly trouncing the cunning Founders. But what if the tables had turned and the Dominion had beaten back our heroes to take control over much of the Alpha and Beta quadrants? In the short form you're allowed, give us a glimpse of a potential (albeit non-cannon) aftermath of the war. Feel free to answer, or not answer, any of the many questions surrounding this possible timeline -- do the Dominion leave the Federation in tact, under their control? Do the Romulans and Klingons succumb? Is there a viable rebel movement? Billions of people await the nub of your pen, dear writer -- are you gentle, or ruthless with their futures? Show us this provocative scenario from any angle you like (Dominion, Federation, Romulan, Klingon, or any other that comes to mind!), as long as it's interesting, creative, and Trekky! Good Luck!

Congratulations to Jhen Thelev, winner of this round, with his story "Els"! Runner-up is Jackford B. Kolk, with "Saving Grace." The last two reviews will be posted in the coming days, as will the winner's banner and updates to the area of the website where the challenge info is posted. (Please be patient -- I've got a busy week/end.) Thanks to everyone for making this one of the most fruitful rounds we've had in a while! The judges commented that all the stories were of great quality, and choosing was, as always, quite difficult. -
