[2005: NOV-DEC] Writing Challenge Discussion
Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf replied to Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf's topic in 2005
I was thinking we might actually skip December, for a few reasons. First, we're going to be pretty busy with the Awards, end of year promotions, and all the other stuff we do around this time -- not to mention the holidays. I was also thinking it would be good to get on a schedule that puts us squarely in each year for 6 challenges, one every two months. Would anyone be opposed to this? -

Good question :-\ I forgot to get judges after the last round, as that was when I was pretty ill. Erk. Solan, I see you already put in an entry, but you have the right to judge if you'd like. Of course, you wouldn't be able to keep the entry in If not, you can come in the next round. I'm contacting the past judges now to see who's going to assist and will post the info in the challenge announcement thread as soon as I know. -
The cadet will be posting his text soon...

Thanks Rocar for the good explination And just for general knowledge: you cannot edit your post after a certain time-period, and this is due to restrictions set on Member accounts. It ensures that we don't have people going back to change their words a few days later to make it look like they said something they didn't But, you can push "reply" and create a new version of your piece. The latest post on the thread is considered the "final" product. Or, if you would like, a moderator can remove the original post and you can start a second one "clean" with your new edits. -

Don't withdraw... Just write something new if you feel your first effort wasn't up to par. But if you do, then leave it. Whether you win or lose, writing challenges are more about the process of writing. It's about stretching yourself beyond what you "normally" do, especially in SIMs. We want you to learn new ways to be creative, and use them on your ships where possible. That being said, there is some truth to Rhys's comparison to a college essay. In the challenge, we'd accept a five-word story. But they'd better be mind-blowing to get us anywhere. The point he is making is that lesser can work, but what you sacrifice in length, you'd better make up for in quality. But again, the point is not really to win or lose It's how much you're learning. -

Indeed You can interpret the question however you please... -

[2005: AUG-SEP] Writing Challenge
Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf replied to Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf's topic in 2005
Well... a few days late, but the time has come. The judges wished for me to stress how difficult it was to get this decision actually made. The topic was as creative as they come, and everyone who entered did very, very well. After much deliberation, the winner's circle is as follows: 1st Place: Ensign Aresee Ventu for "X Factors" Runner up: Lieutenant Commander Pietro Maximoff for "Lost in a dreamland" Honorable Mention: Lieutenant Commander Solon for "This thing of darkest hate" Again, well done everyone! The winner and runner-up will have their sig badges within the next few days. The next challenge will (hopefully) be announced within 24 hours. -

We're running a little behind. One of our judges is MIA :-\ We hope to have a winner very, very soon. Normally we don't announce a new contest until around the 5th anyway. Please sit tight! -
Here are the final postings: - Takashi McDowell Chen: Posted to Science on Aurora - Dan Jacobs: Posted to Tactical on Aurora (per request) - Bozworth A. Shulun: Posted to Medical on Columbia - Russ W. Heston: Posted to Strategic Operations Officer on Embassy - Toni Turner: Posted to Counselor on Embassy In the unlikely circumstance that you don't hear from your Commanding Officers within 36 hours please private message me here on the forums. Good luck to everyone, and have a great time!

Most of you folks should be hearing from your COs shortly. Heston and Turner, a slight delay on yours but I hope to have something concrete for you within 24 hours. Apologies for the long lag time. Poor Anassasi's computer :-\

Please be patient. I realize it can be a bit unnerving, but technology is as much a hindrance as a help sometimes You may want to check out the "Read Me First!" forum. I'm sure with a few moments of looking around, you'll find the answer you seek

Does this mean the end Starebase 118?
Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf replied to Kwame Alexander's topic in Trek Discussion
I suspect that there will be some UFOP members who join Star Trek: Online, and there's nothing wrong with that. I may even do so I enjoy MMORPGs, but I find that it's easy to get tired of one (or all of them) after a few days of blurry-eyed, late-night playing. But, as mentioned, we provide a different type of service. And I think in the end, we'll still keep a strong membership. -
Does this mean the end Starebase 118?
Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf replied to Kwame Alexander's topic in Trek Discussion
There will always be room for good, old-fashioned role playing MMORPGs like Star Trek: Online are a notoriously lacking in characterization, and very strong on shoot-em-up type atmospheres. Apples and oranges, really. -

Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf replied to Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf's topic in 2005
If you'd like to do a story in the Mirror Universe as it was seen on any of the shows, that's fine. But I would stick to the "normal" Star Trek universe, and mirror universe as it was seen onscreen, per the rules of the competition. -
