Changes to next year's Top Sims Contest?
Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf replied to Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf's topic in 2008
My fear about that is having it become something dominated by one or two people. If you allow any sim to be nominated, as opposed to having a "gatekeeper," then there's more chance for better sims to rise to the top. As to open tags, I suppose we'd allow it either way: you can submit a copied/pasted sim, or a link to a sim, if there are no tags. Salak, with all due respect, you're interpreting the competition in a certain way, without taking into account the actual purpose of the competition. Yes, we encourage people to use it as a way to praise others for their work, but the purpose of the contest is simply to find the best sim of the year -- that's it. If you hold your own personal bias for what you believe the competition should be, you're not helping to fulfill the intended goal. -
Changes to next year's Top Sims Contest?
Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf replied to Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf's topic in 2008
Issue of getting more people involved, what if we used a form on the website, instead of requiring people to start a thread on the forums themselves. Right now, we have a way to create a form on the website and have the results show up in a thread on the site. Each person would still have to log on to the forums, but as long as someone has the "remember me" function turned on, then it wouldn't require them to log in specifically to use the form. As to the issue of self-noms, I think this is a difficult issue that I'm not sure there's too much of a solution for. The only solution I can think of is using an anonymous system of nomination, where everyone just submits sims to an e-mail box, and then they get put up on the site by volunteers. -

Also, I have repeatedly sent requests to you to update my status so that I can have greater flexibility in amending and posting, as I was promoted to Lt. (jg) a couple of months ago. I cannot of my own accord ammend the "original", but Have reposted the story with the changes you requested. thank you, Clint Williams Where did you send the requests? I did not receive any of them. -

[Last Round 2008] Top Sims Contest Discussion
Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf replied to Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf's topic in 2008
Goodness, it's hard to choose! They all remind me quite a bit of the best of Trek -- I feel very much like taking a walk around my old stomping grounds IC again. Thanks for all the great work, everyone! -
Hello everyone, In an effort to ensure that we are as fair as possible, I'd like to open the floor to everyone to post their suggestions or comments about how the contest works. Are we doing this right? What should we change? How can we make it better? How can we ensure that we have the best sims? Please feel free to be open and honest. I cannot guarantee that we'll use every suggestion or change everything commented-upon, but we will carefully consider everything mentioned. Please be sure to e-mail anyone you know who participated in the contest and direct them to this thread, especially if you know they had gripes about how it worked!

The Data Artistic Award was (somehow!) left off the award nomination ballot this year, so I'd like to go ahead and get nominations now! Here's the information from our Awards Ceremony area of the site about what this award is about: Please e-mail the nominations list directly with your nominations. Include in your nomination: - Your character name - The character name of the person you're nominating - Reason you're nominating them We'll review them and include this award as part of the staff ceremony we put out each year All nominations must be submitted by 12-31-08. Thanks everyone! (P.S.- Please do not post any nominations in this thread!)

This vote is to choose the TOP SIM OF THE YEAR from the nominations which were voted on throughout the year. Please choose ONE sim from the poll, based on the MERIT of the sim. Please vote with your conscience, and not with your crew allegiance. This is NOT a popularity contest! This sim will be posted prominently on our website, and we want to showcase all the BEST of our site! Also, keep in mind that any crews found "stuffing the ballots" or ratings, will be disqualified PERMANENTLY - yes, that means the whole crew. The order and selection of the sims was determined by the Top Sims Contest "end of year" procedure. See this post for more information. The poll ends on Sunday, January 4th, 2009 at 11:59pm Pacific. Sim links, to read the sims: - "What We Owe" by Sidney Riley - "The Wedding" by Idril Mar, Danny Wilde, and friends - "Explorations of Partner-ish- ship" by Karynn Ehlanii & Ethan Brice - "Tonight, We Will Argue (part 1)" by Karynn Ehlanii & Ethan Brice - "It's Not All Great Being Engaged" by Heath West & Toni Turner

End of year information - important!
Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf replied to Jordan aka FltAdmlWolf's topic in 2008
Apparently, we're an indecisive bunch. Even as I expanded the last rounds to give us a four, instead of 1 or 2 top sims, we can't seem to decide! So now the final round will include FIVE sims (*grumblegrumble*), because Runoff Round 2 had three winners. Anyway, here's the list of the finalists: I ran these through the Random.org tool, and here's the order of the final five: We can talk about maybe having some rules about only have one sim in the final round next year, but for this year, that's the set. Please head on to the poll and vote!
