FltCapt. Sidney Riley Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 ((Deep Space 17: Tallis and Toni's quarters, 0400 hours))::Nosoonerthan Toni laid down, wrapped in Rhul's strong arms, a sense ofsafety washedover her. And for the first time in quite a while she feltprotected from theharshness of reality. With this knowledge, she soonwas lulled into restfulsleep by his assuring whispers.::((0600Hours))::Awakened bythe computer alarm, she sat up andstretched her arms, then slid her feet tothe floor. Taking off herclothes from the night before as she moved to thebathroom, she threwthem into the refresher, then entered the sonic shower.::::Later, in a comfortable embroidered Laudean dress, she entered theTwilight'sEdge.::((Deep Space 17: Twilight's Edge,0700))::Heshould have been seeing the now quiet promenade throughthe haze ofsleep-bereft eyes. The smell of freshly-brewed coffee that rosefrom thetable in front of him should have been all that was keeping himawake. In truth, however, he had been up for a couple of hours alreadyandrunning on adrenaline. Unable to sleep, he had done his best tosettledown for long enough to let Toni drift off before taking a sonicshower, dressing for breakfast and hitting the promenade. On the way, hehadremoved a package from his travel bag that he hadsurreptitiously hadsent to him while the Thunder-A crew had been onEarth; finding himself in aposition where he had no family heirloomsfor what he had planned, he hadbeen in contact with the Anderssons. Asthe family that he had grown up withafter leaving his homeworld, heowed them an update and they had been keen togrant his favour. It waswith his best friend Steffen's blessing that he nowhad hisgrandmother's diamond engagement ring stowed away safely in thepocketof his dark green tunic.::::By the time Toni arrived, lookinglike a gift from the Prophets, he was ready to greet her withbreakfastalready laid out on the table and her first cup of coffee readytopour.::Tallis: Good morning, beautiful. I thought I'd geteverything ordered up readyfor when you arrived.Turner: ::her eyesmoving from him to the lavishly laden table; smiling:: Itlooks like you dida good job of ittoo.::Moving around the table, he pulled out herchair. It was his usual, chivalrousgesture.::Tallis: ::Putting onhis best waiter act.:: So, what can I serve you thismorning,Ma'am?::Spreadinghis hands wide, he indicated the selection ofbreakfast foods that werearranged before them. The usual cooked Terran fare, such as sausage, bacon and eggs were laid out on a platter, accompanied by abowl offruits from various worlds. A toast rack with a selection ofjams, jellies and marmalades in small sampling bowls topped off thedisplay, alongside a large vase of long stemmed pink roses with Baby'sBreath...behind which a large dish of grits were waiting to make anappearance.::Turner:::putting the napkin in her lap:: It all looksgood, but bacon andeggs, toast and orange marmalade, and coffee would do asstarters.::Noticing the roses for the first time, she smiled as sheadmired them, thenlooked to Rhul.::Turner: You remembered. They'rebeautiful.Tallis: ::Beaming:: Hey, you know me... I wasn't going to dohalf a job!Turner:::spotting the bowl of grits; laughing slightly::Looks like they'renot the only things you remembered. I'll take some ofthose too.Tallis: I was counting on that too. Seems like I'm one of thefew people whodidn't know what they were.::The waiter who had dealtwith his sizeable order had been human, although hisaccent had beendifferent to Toni's.::::Thefact that he had included them on themenu brought the realization thatshe and Sidney had converted him, at leastpartially, to the southerndark side. She chuckled internally with thatthought.::Turner: Shall we eat?::Rhulserved Toni's breakfastfor her and then helped himself to a couple ofpieces of toast and somebutter. As much as he was hiding it on theoutside, he had butterfliesinhis stomach. He knew there was no good reason for that;giveneverything that had led them to this point he was sure that Toniwouldnot turn down his proposition. As he buttered his toast, hecontinuedthe conversation, trying to remain as casual aspossible.::Tallis:I've been thinking a lot about what things will belike when we moveback to Til'ahn. Living with you and the children has beena wonderfulexperience so far but once we have our own house I have a feelingitwill be even better.::He was right. It had been awonderfulexperience. He had brought with him the gift of laughter that hadnearlyfaded from their lives.::Turner: ::nodding:: I agree. Havingaplace to call home will be great for the children, especially ahomewhere they know they are loved.::Images began to form inhismind's eye; he had bonded well with both of the children and fatehadpresented him with not just a chance to be happy himself, but to offerhappiness and stability to three other people that weredear to him in theprocess.::Tallis: We could plant a garden... Ican see the childrenrunning around in there now. I could teach Garthto play springball. We couldsit outside on the warmer evenings andwatch the suns go down. It all seemslike a dream come true.::Andin honesty it was; they had been able todo some of those things beforehe had first left the Embassy and transferredto the Mercury, buteverything now came with the added bonus that theywouldn't ever have togo their separate ways at the end of the day. Ofcourse, there would betimes when they would both need to travel to completetheir duties butknowing that the other would be waiting for them when theyreturned, that they would be living under the same roof, seemed to makeeverythingsweeter.::::She smiled warmly, thinking of the timetheyhad walked home from the Market Place in therain; Garth's laughteras Rhul chased him around the house, pretendingnot to be able to catch him;Vee trying so hard to play the flute forhim, wanting him to be proud of her,and him showing that he was.::Turner: ::noticing he was not eatingmuch:: Are you alright?::Herealised he had paused half way throughbuttering his toast. Smiling inacceptance that he couldn't wait any longer,he answered by placing hisknife and half-buttered toast back down on hisplate.::Tallis: I'm fine... more than fine infact...::Andthen he rose from his seat, only for long enough tolower himself ontoone knee, following the human customs that he had read upon beforeleaving Earth. Reaching into his pocket, he removed the heirloomring, and held it towards Toni, looking deep into her blue eyes anddrinkingin every detail to remember in future years.::Tallis:Toni,we've been through dangerous missions, stood by each other'ssidethrough the hardest of times and even after being separated wehave alwaysfound each other again. The Prophets did not create wordsfor me to describejust how much and how deeply I love you and willalways love you. Will youmarry me?::She paused, taken off guardby his actions and question.Sitting back in her chair, she took in along breath, reaching to caress theside of his face.::Turner:Marry you? ::tears of happiness forming inthe corner of her eyes::Nothing in this Universe would make me happier thanto become your wife, because, I love you deeply too, and will always loveyou.::Flingingher arms around his neck to kiss him, they lost theirbalance, tumblingfrom his kneeling position to an awkward sprawl across thefloor, butstill holding the kiss, until the waiter disapprovingly clearedhisthroat.::Turner: ::laughing, glancing up to the waiter:: Don'tmind us. He just asked meto marry him, and I wasshowing him howhead-over-heels in love with him I am.Waiter: ::helping them up and backto their seats:: Oh, I see. Congratulations.Tallis: ::Laughing anddusting himself down:: Thankyou.::Hehad expected to be the one tosweep Toni off her feet, rather than theother way around. The waiter, havingdealt with what he could possiblyhave considered to be a potential incident, cleared his throat onceagain before returning to hisduties.::Turner: ::after the waiter had left:: To answer yourquestion... Yes, I'll marryyou.Tallis: I was hoping you'd saythat.::Movingcloser to her, he slipped the ring onto the fourthfinger of heroutstretched left hand. It looked right at home; he felt asthough heshould have done this a long time ago.::Turner: ::watchinghim place the ring on her finger:: It's beautiful.::He could not havebeen more pleased. He had taken steps to make sure it wouldbe theperfectfit and did not want to give her just any ring.::Tallis:Technicallyit's a family heirloom. It belonged to Steffen'sgrandmother and his familywere happy to pass it down. I wanted it tomean something, and to have alittle history behind it.Turner: That they would do that for you, makesit even more special.Tallis: ::He smiled:: Not just for me, for us. Theythink of me as their son, sothat will technically make them yourin-laws...::And they were certainly better than the recently-deceasedalternatives, butnow was not the time for such negativethoughts.::Turner: Now all we have to do is decide where and when. Anythoughts about that?Tallis:Here, or on the Tiger. Before we go backto the Embassy. I don't seeany need to wait. I asked Sidney and she saidthat she would perform theceremony, unless you'd prefer to have it somewhereelse?::Hewas keen to tie the knot as soon aspossible but not tothe exclusion of Toni's feelings and wishes. He didnot know whether or notshe had any plans for how and where she wantedto get married. Hopefully aholodeck or a part of DS17 or the Tigercould accommodate whatever she wantedto do. If not, he would wait.::::It certainly wasn't the wedding shehad dreamed about, but if that iswhat he wanted, then she'd gladlyrelinquish that ceremony, after all,she was in love with him, and he seemedto want to do it as soon aspossible.::Turner: Then we'll elope, ifSidney has the time.Tallis: We can speak to her to finalise a time and aplace, and we already havea maid of honour and a pageboy.::Picturing Vee in her favorite, a sparkly dress, and Garth in asuit, carryingtheir rings, she smiled.::Turner: That wedo!::He wondered how the children might feel about that. He hoped itwould notprove to be difficult forthem.::Turner: Okay, with thatsettled, we'll need to buywedding bands, and have Sidney arrange for awitness - perhaps her FirstOfficer would do it... The children have newclothes I bought them onEarth, and I have a dress suitable to wear. Am Iforgetting anything?::He racked his brains, trying to think if there wasanything about humanweddings that he had forgotten.::Tallis: Whatabout a bouquet?Turner: ::glancing at the roses he had gotten her:: No,I can carry these pinkroses as my bouquet.::It seemed a little bitlike they were running on a shoestring but that alladded to the sense ofexcitement.::Tallis: If you're sure?Turner: Let's go tell Veeand Garth, and get started. With any luck at all wecan be married bytomorrow morning.::Itcertainly looked like she was on board and ifshe wanted to do things adifferent way then she was hiding it very wellindeed. He hoped thatshewouldn't regret eloping but it came with theadvantage of their knowingthat their future was secured. As for breakfast,he was far too hypedup now to eat even a morsel.::Tallis: Let's dothat! As soon as you're finished eating.::Tooexcited to eat anymore, but not wanting him to think his efforts withbreakfast would be goingunappreciated, she made an egg sandwich withthe toast.::Turner:::wolfing down a spoonful of grits:: I'll finish eating on the way. Youreadyto go?Tallis: I'm ready to go whenever you are.::Bothhavingserved with the fleet, Tallis and Toni were no strangers toadventure; theywere about to embark upon the most exciting oneofall.::TBCJP by. . .Ambassador Tallis RhulEmbassyDuronis IIUSS Thunder NCC 070605-AandFleet Captain ToniTurnerCommanding OfficerEmbassy Duronis IIUSS Thunder NCC -70605-A 2
