StarBase 118 Staff Posted February 7 Posted February 7 PARTHA EXPANSE — The Federation News Service has embedded a civilian journalist aboard the USS Chin’toka, marking a rare instance of media access to the starship’s operations. Hailing from Earth, Orion journalist Maha Tani earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas in Austin and previously wrote for the revived Austin Chronicle. The Federation News Service hopes that her presence aboard the USS Chin’toka will provide more insight into the typically tight-lipped crew. Early reports suggest that Executive Officer Lt. Cmdr. Aine Sherlock is less than pleased with this development. She could not be reached for comment—unsurprisingly. The ship also welcomed the return of former crew member Dr. Sylvie Doucet. Speculation surrounds the reason for her previous departure, with theories ranging from involvement in post-Frontier Day recovery efforts to assisting in the detection of the Changeling threat on Earth. What is confirmed, however, is that her return comes with a promotion to full lieutenant. Other crew changes include Lt. JG Daniel McGillian taking a temporary leave of absence, while recent Academy graduate Ens. Catalina Soldia has joined the Security and Tactical department. Meanwhile, the rest of the crew has been balancing time between vacationing and assisting with restoration efforts at Paldor II’s lunar base. A scientific expedition to Yatil I has reportedly led to the potential discovery of a lost Starfleet vessel, though confirmation is still pending. The mission appears to be a personal passion project of Dr. V’Len Kel, who remarked, “I don’t know that people fully appreciate the fungal kingdom. Not only do they perform a critical function in ecosystems, but we’re only beginning to understand the complex biochemistry they can achieve.” Further updates from the Chin’toka are expected as Tani continues her reporting.
