Lt. Commander Dekas - Just don't terrorize the crewmen

The amount of times I had to stop reading this to just laugh... Well I lost count! Especially at the part about the coffee! I'm so glad to have been namedropped! That being said... I am @Dekas mum and I want to meet this faker.

Of course, Dekas invited his mom aboard. There was an egg now, and as much as he was happy with the people around him, he did feel like he needed someone who understood this feeling from the perspective of an Aurelian, and he knew no one better than his mother, who had raised 13 kids, including him.

 

He knew she would tell him what he wanted to know, and that she wouldn’t try to take over. She was happy to have the free time, but she never turned down the offer to help any of her kids when they needed her.

 

And right now he needed his mom. She even took the jump to leave the planet despite her concerns about leaving just to be there.

 

Dekas didn’t even try to be less than thrilled to see her. Wearing a Hawaiian shirt and khaki shorts, no less. Though maybe what people were surprised about was that she was about 7’5.

 

Dekas: Mom!

 

It was an immediate hug, which she gladly returned. She spoke with a uniquely melodic, and somewhat eccentric accent. Something he’d tamped down in his own speech, but found calming to hear so freely here now.

 

Zuka: ::fondly:: hello, heart-song.

 

Dekas stepped back reluctantly and looked around.

 

Dekas: I take it dad stayed behind for now?

 

Zuka: He did. Not permanently. He just had some things he wanted to make sure were sorted out. He’ll find his way out here at some point.

 

Dekas paused, thinking, and then said knowingly:

 

Dekas: You put Cousin Jarnathan in charge of the house once you’re both gone, didn’t you?

 

Zuka: Of course, he is always so willing to watch the house when we take vacations. Granted it is usually a mess when we get back. If his kids were not completely feral, I would assume he was throwing wild parties in our absence. But Daf was worried about it considering we will be gone longer than usual. It is probably fine.

 

 

((Scene cut to Aurelia))

 

Back at the family home in the Tropics of Aurelia, Dekas’ father Daf could be found feeling like he was wrangling spiders. Jarnathan’s kids were causing a raucous problem. They’d learned about coffee, and unfortunately, Jarnathan hadn’t been prepared for the result of indulging their curiosity just this once.

 

Crazy enough with kids that didn’t have wings, but these ones were almost literally bouncing off the walls.

 

Jarnathan, bless his heart, tried his best, but he always had been a bit clumsy, and Daf hadn’t seen what was going to happen in enough time to stop the chaos from happening.

 

Daf: Jarnathan, wait don’t!

 

In the background there was the sound of something breaking. It would have been comedic if he weren’t busy cringing. 

 

Jarnathan: ::from a distance:: I’m okay!

 

 

((Scene cut back to Shuttlebay, USS Ronin))

 

Dekas: Okay, that checks out. Are you okay? Must be weird being away from home and without dad for this long of a time.

 

Zuka: I miss having him… around me I mean. I miss having him around me. But I will be okay. We talk at least once a day anyway, and we have a trip to Risa planned after I make sure you and your child are sorted out. At worst, we see each other over there. ::a laugh:: I am just happy to see you right now, kid.

 

She wrapped a wing around him and it was the most comforting thing he’d felt in a while. She didn’t care that people were looking their way or that she was dressed. She was just having fun. It was refreshing to be around family again.

 

Dekas: I should probably make sure to take you to the guest quarters. I’m sure the trip was long and cramped.

 

Zuka: You would be correct. I think I need a nap. But rest assured I should probably also get a tour. And I’ll get someone else to do so if you don’t.

 

He believed her. And he almost wanted to laugh at the visual of her scaring some poor crewman out of nowhere about it. Or someone who wasn’t expecting a strange bird woman to be around in general.

 

Dekas: Of course. If I can’t for any reason, I think my friend Alyndra would be open to it. And if that’s not an option, just please don’t terrorize the crewmen, they are working… and they already get enough of that from me.

 

Zuka: Alright, I’ll save the terrorizing for the ones with the, ah… ::she gestured to the top of the uniform:: the nips?

 

Dekas had to save himself from laughing. She was technically still getting the hang of Federation Standard. It was just that it was entertaining in the accent. He’d had similar mishaps when learning it himself. In fact, he’d distinctly made worse ones that he preferred not to think about.

 

Dekas: ::losing composure:: Th-the pips mom. I think you mean the pips. Though I’m sure you would make someone’s day if you called them that.

 

She laughed without embarrassment, or worry about whether or not this caught anyone’s attention. He missed feeling that free sometimes.

 

Zuka: Yes, those. I will look for the pips.

 

Dekas: If you find the one with four solid pips and a beard, do your worst. I’m sure he’d love it.

 

oO A suggestion that surely won’t haunt me later. Oo

 

She seemed to take the idea in mind, and with that, he made sure to show his mother to guest quarters for now.
