Alyndra Syrex Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Quote ((USS Ronin, Sickbay, shortly before departure)) With her eyes closed, Sybil breathed in deeply. She liked the smell of new things. It didn't matter whether it was a new spaceship or a freshly replicated book. As a child, she had programmed the replicator at home so that a freshly replicated book smelled as if it had really just been printed. Before she began to read anew book, it was first ceremoniously opened and she smelled the pages with her eyes closed. It was the same with shuttles and spaceships. She loved the smell of the new. Because of the general overhaul of the Ronin, it smelled fresh. And although the Federation ships were all made of the same materials, each one had its own scent. Its own recognisable nuance. The refurbished Ronin smelled like a Starfleet engineer's proud dream. It smelled slightly of polished consoles, new composites, sealed circuitry, and neutronium and polycomposite materials used for the floors and walls. To Sybil, it was all like an idea of what space might smell like if you squeezed it into a Starfleet starship. She sat on a bed in sickbay and waited for Ensign Alyndra Syrex. A nurse had brought her here and asked her to pull her uniform trousers up to her knee and wait a moment. Sybil looked at her right leg. Three days ago it had been a mess - swollen and bent at an unnatural angle. Immediately after they had returned totheir time, she had been taken back to DS9 on a shuttle, where it had been treated and healed. Today, at least externally, there was no sign of the serious fracture. Nevertheless, she was now here for a precautionary follow-up examination. Syrex: Response Sybil looked up and saw a young, blonde Trill woman coming towards her. Nemes: Yes, Sybil Nemes. That’s me. ::smiling:: The broken leg. Syrex: Response Nemes: Quite good. There is a slight, dragging pain when I put more weight on the leg. But otherwise it'sokay. Syrex: Response Sybil nodded slightly and watched as the young doctor examined her leg. Nemes: It was the hell of a mission. ::more serious now although trying to make it sound light:: I hadn't reckoned that I would end up having to be rescued on our rescue mission. In fact, she hadn't found the physical injuries so dramatic, even though the fracture had been anything but trivial and had hurt like hell. But Sybil wasn't complaining. She had always been hard on herself here. While her older sister had howled loudly at the slightest scratch as a child and rushed to her mother, Sybil had always gritted her teeth. Even when she had cried, she had never shouted or moaned for her mum or dad. Sybil liked to hide what was painful - however much it hurt - and not only physical pain and injuries. Syrex: Response TAGS / TBC === Ensign Sybil Nemes Science Officer USS Ronin D239009VD0 I really enjoyed reading the characterisation here from Sybil Nemes! The vivid description of her smelling the books ink and comparing it to the refurbished Ronin was really interesting and made her feel really characterised! 2 Quote
