Ens Lyara Alroyo - Eat My Dust!

I think all of us know this feeling. When you have an idea and start something, hoping the rest of the crew likes it. And some people join in, others don't, some give great contributions and others...

Well, other's like @Lyara Alroyo just take it to the next level. Literally.

Very well played Isa, I never expected it to be this good and I have to share it her so everyone can see.

((OOC: I'd like to give a special thanks to Silveira's writer for his amazing consultation for this sim. And before I forget, Happy New Years Artemisians!!!))

((USS Artemis, Deck 2, Holodeck 1))

She had heard rumors of sounds of beeps and boops coming from Holodeck 1. The other ensigns spoke of some “mad experiment” of the Chief Tactical Officer’s twisted mind. A simulation so dark and twisted to harden his tactical thinking it’d make even veterans of the Bajoran Resistance faint at the sight of it. Klingons would tremble and accept a dishonorable retreat from it. Vulcans would abandon logic if it meant they could defeat the evil that radiated from that holodeck.

Lyara wasn’t a subscriber to those theories, she had met the Lieutenant on the bridge and she knew he was a big softie just from looking at him. Not that it was a negative trait, he actually was really pleasant and showed a general attitude of chivalry towards everyone on the bridge. Surely his holodeck program would prove to be a great joy as she had gotten a tip that he was ok with people taking a peek at what he was working on.

Bajorans are famously a very nosy people, how else would they have nose ridges? And she had plenty of time to go sniff out a holodeck. Maybe she really would find some sort of horrific creation of a program that would terrify her. She doubted it, but it was fun to entertain.

Alroyo approached the holodecks and checked the console to see if the rumored program was still there. It seemed it had been left running, which meant an ensign could sneak in and see the deadly surprise in store the lower deckers had spent so much time babbling about. The door swished open and she walked right into the dragon’s den.

She found, much to her surprise, a bunch of tall boxes of varying lengths and sizes. All of them emitting some form of noise and lights from them. The walls and flooring were still the base grid style on all holodecks so there was a slight creepiness to the space, but hardly what the other lower deckers described.

Alroyo approached one of the boxes and started to look it over. On one of the sides there was art of a yellow circle with legs and a blue… ghost? She looked to the screen and saw a premade video of the yellow circle sans legs moving around a maze as it avoided spirits.

Upon further inspection of the buttons and joystick on the console she realized what the program was supposed to be. It was a collection of Old Earth cabinets, like the one she had played once or twice while in the academy. She barely remembered it as she spent the whole time on a racing game and was too focused on her friend at the time who wanted a plush from one of those dastardly claw games.

The arcade cabinet beeped in front of her as the screen flashed “Pressed Start” and beckoned her to give it a try. Never one to back down from a challenge, even something as simple as text flashing, Alroyo pressed start to face the digital demons that were trapped in the machine. Immediately a small leitmotif played and she was dropped right into the action of moving the circle around the maze.

It wasn’t long before she was bested by the dreaded pink and red ghosts who flanked her in one of the corner sections. The circle let out a wimpy cry of defeat as the life counter in the corner went down.

Lyara: What the hell!

Pissed, she turned away from the machine and walked over to another one which had an old motorcycle attached to it. She had always wanted to drive one but they were always claimed or given away before she had the chance to get a genuine one. So until the Prophets would throw her a bone this was the closest she could get for awhile. Alroyo checked the clock and saw she had time to kill, so just one ride would be more than enough fun for the rest of her holodeck time right?

A couple hours later…

Alroyo had played almost every game in the arcade and beaten every one of Sil’s scores to boot. Between gaming breaks she had even designed a very rudimentary prize table where you could redeem tickets. Although, it was just a grey rectangle with “Prize Counter” written in Bajoran. But it was the prizes themselves that Lyara had spent more time on and was excited to show Silveira.

However, there was one last thing she had to do before she left a note for their lovely chief of tactical. Finish that flight game that was practically calling her name. She sat down in the cockpit and looked at the totally retro flightstick that was modeled after the fighter craft of old. It was a shame they had switched to mostly touch screens for small craft, she always liked the way classic aviation looked. Maybe it was her ego talking but she felt as though this machine was picked out just for her.

Lyara: ::To Herself:: Let’s Groove.

She started up the game and immediately locked in. This run there could be no messing up. Alroyo had already placed top two and now she needed to get third place in this run. It wasn’t exactly like combat simulators, if anything it was far from it. But it didn’t fail to at least get that rush of excitement pumping whenever she did a more realistic flight sim. The numbers constantly going up on the score tracker helped motivate her to shoot as many bogeys down as she could.

It wasn’t long before she realized she was in the danger zone of missing third place. Immediately she took her fingers off the weapon buttons and let herself get hit by hostile craft. As much as it hurt her pride to lose in such a cowardly way, it was going to be worth it when she got to that scoreboard screen.

The craft exploded as “Game Over” flashed across the screen. A smirk formed across her face as it asked her to input initials for the score. Usually, she had put her initials LA in all the other machines but she had something special for this one. On the high score screen she had written out:

KIS
MY
And she and Vitor would know what the last one was.

With the third place input she got up to get one last thing setup before she exited the holodeck for the day. Every arcade needs a prize counter, it was the only thing she remembered from her visit with her bestie so many years ago. And every prize counter needs prizes, particularly plush friends that are “marketable” as the Ferengi like to say.

Lyara: Computer, activate program Lyara 23.

At her command two objects started to materialize on the prize counter. Once the materialization process cleared there sit two marketable plushies of the silliest members of the Artemis crew. There sat a marketable Lyara and a marketable Silveira, all with their own catchphrases and with the option of holding a phaser, tricorder or raktajino mug. However, there was a glitch with Sil’s vocal matrix that made him very talkative for a toy and constantly saying things she never programmed. Alroyo picked up the plushie of herself and inspected it, admiring her hand work.

Lyara: Well Mini-Alroyo, what do you have to say?

Mini-Alroyo: Eat my dust!

Lyara: Very good Mini-Alroyo.

She put the plush down and then took a piece of paper and wrote down on it “Nice scores you got there, too bad I beat them” and placed it next to the plushies. Hopefully the Lieutenant would find humor in her little prank and not immediately shoot her down with a max power phaser.

With her master plan in place and a prayer of safety she went to walk out the holodeck before the familiar voice of that Vitor plushie spoke.

Mini-Silveira: I’m not superstitious, it brings bad luck.

She rolled her eyes and exited through the arch, it seems she’d have to iron out some problems with that plushie before making more. But for now, she felt a great sense of pride for topping every chart in that arcade.

Good luck beating those scores! You'll need it. And for those wondering, Marketable Silveira Plushies (Patent Pending) will be coming to a replicator near you!
