Josh Herrick Posted Wednesday at 11:33 PM Posted Wednesday at 11:33 PM Really enjoy the scene setting here; great descriptive text and really gets me inside the mindset of what counselors think during their first app @Sevantha! Quote ((Dr. Saa’s Suite, Counselor Offices, Deck 5, USS Octavia E Butler)) oO Light controls fixed… Waterfall on… Oo Sevantha was doing her last minute check around her office to ensure everything was presentable and comfortable for this appointment. Nesre had asked her to take Krystal on as her patient due to growing closeness but after a review of her file, she knew it was bound to be a challenge, an adolescent girl with trust issues having to handle change and talk about feelings? She remembered how resistant she had been to her medical and counseling staff during her mandatory stay in her youth. Patience was going to be needed by all parties present, not just herself, but Jack Kessler as well. A notification from the receptionist arrived and Sevantha took a deep breath and exhaled to ground herself before stepping outside to greet them both. There she saw the Chief of Tactical sitting next to Krystal who most certainly didn’t look like she wanted to be here. Saa: Lieutenant Jack Kessler and Krystal Kessler. ::she offered a muted smile:: Office is open for you both. Kessler: (extending a hand) Doc, good to see you again. As Jack extended his hand, Sevantha looked down at it, it was a common human greeting that unintentionally initiated telepathic contact with many reader species. Both in greeting and apologetically she inclined her head and gave a small bow. Krystal didn't say a word and watched from where she sat in her chair. Realising she was just going to have to go in there, she sighed and stood, offering a nod as the only greeting she was willing to give the new counsellor. Saa: Good to see you too, my apologies but hand shaking tends to initiate telepathic contact and I do not want to inadvertently violate a boundary. ::she explained before stepping aside to let them in:: Come on in. Kessler: After you sis. Sevantha watched as Jack ushered his reluctant sister in with a gentle hand and how quickly she moved away from the touch. Once they were both inside, she stepped in after and had the door close behind them. They’d both be greeted by a standard starfleet counselor’s office that had a couch and two chairs at its center. A minimalistic desk with a blueberry mint african violet within a terracotta pot painted with intricate designs from a Ba’ku xenobiologist. A few scentless candles burned in the room and the overhead lights were kept dimmer than most, and currently they were a faint blue tone. In the corner the most eye-catching piece of decor was the holographic waterfall with stone colored pillows that appeared to be ‘floating’ on the holographic pool below the falls. An alternative seating area for those who wanted to escape the feel of the office. Krystal made her way to one of the chairs, avoiding the couch where she’d have to share space with Jack, she would choose the other chair and leave Jack the couch, just in case at any point Krystal chose to join him, but she highly doubted that would occur after one session. Saa: Go ahead and take a seat, would you prefer your proper title use or more informal names? Kessler: response Sevantha gave a little nod of her head recognizing his decision before turning to face Krystal finally. Saa: I’m Dr. Sevantha Saa, a pleasure to meet you, Krystal. There was no need to pretend she didn’t know the girl’s name. Krystal already was well aware Sevantha knew her name, counseling wasn’t a new experience for her, which made for its own challenge. Kessler: Response There was clear acknowledgement from Krystal of her which was a good start. Still there was a discomfort and desire to be anywhere but there. She understood it all too well but one could never tell an adolescent girl they understood upon a first meeting with them. Counseling was a tricky business of earning trust, being supporting, a confidant to their clients and perceived as a friend without the bias of enabling certain behaviors and a willingness to adapt based on the clients needs. She’d offer Krystal a warm but muted smile. Plucking up a remote, she placed it on a small side table next to her chair. Saa: Here, this is the remote to the lights, feel free to change them to any setting you want, spotlight, roaming, specific colors, even has a blacklight mode... only thing they don’t do is turn off and flash. ::She drew back:: That last one is a medical hazard sadly. She’d learned her lesson already with that trick. First day in a practice session on Earth with her current set-up a troll of a professor sat turning the lights on and off the whole time in efforts to break her temper purposefully while internally humming the theme song of a Terran show called “Jeopardy.” And she thought Caldwell tested her sanity. Kessler: Response Saa: Maybe I will, but we’ll have to see. Part of this was also to study Jack’s interactions with Krystal’s behavior as well. Saa: I’d like to know you both a little more and about your lives on the ship. Kessler/Krystal: Response Saa: Yes, I could read your files to learn more, but you both are far more than just your files. Kessler/Krystal (Optional): Response Leaning back in her chair, she looked between the two of them thoughtfully, lacing her fingers together in her lap as she listened to what they chose to share. Saa: ::to Jack:: You’ve recently returned from leave back on Earth you mentioned, how was that? Did Krystal go with you?
