Gnai Posted November 3 Posted November 3 Here we have a master-class in scene-setting and hinting at further things to come, from the always-amazing @Gila Sadar. It accomplishes everything it needs to, without being overly lengthy. Check it out! Quote (( The Royal Estate of His Lordship, Maprash, Grande Rishe of Greater Prash, Conqueror of Upper Meirash and Lord-Upon-The-Soil of the Divine Light's Domain - Greater Prash, Upper Meirash, Ura Neteos III)) The Royal Palace of the Grande Rishe was a sight to behold. Even in the greyest of morns, when the Divine withheld its Light from its followers in cold admonishment for their Sins, it shone with luster and glimmer, its many suntiles still vibrant with the blessing of the Divine Light with which they had been forged. It was probably not an exaggeration to claim that the Grande Rishe’s palace was the closest his lowliest subjects got to witnessing the Divine’s Light during their daily lives, toiling in the slums, and even late in the evening, after the miners’ tasks in the Southern mountains had concluded, they could always find their way back by following the light absorbed into its spires. Anyone, from gentry to slave, would consider themselves fortunate indeed to work in this place, second only in splendor to the Seat of Light itself. The grand halls were crafted from only the warmest of materials, the stones themselves absorbing the heat from the Divine and the fires to keep the rooms warm in even the coldest of seasons, and every surface, every wall, were decorated in tapestries, baubles, statues and other testaments to the Grande Rishe’s power and the benevolence of his station. So great was the pride his servants felt at their charge, that they would defy all notions of poor health or ailing minds, should it prevent them from fulfilling their duties. Day after day, servants, guardsmen, cooks, gardeners, scholars, priests and bishops all came to the Royal Palace, doing their duties as had been commanded by their Lord. Each did they have their duties within the Royal Palace, and rarely did they see each other, for servants had no business interfering in the duties of the guards, nor did the guards have the authority to question the wisdom of the scholars and priests. Every day was as expected in the Royal Palace, each following the same template. And once the Divine Light lowered to the Horizon, giving its final farewells to its beloved and adoring People, the large and majestic painting of the Grande Rishe in the westernmost hall, overseeing his subjects’ conduct within his Domain, would swing open, and scholars and priests - pale and dreary from cold and ailments - would return to the Light, arms full of new notes and and observations, and with a sickness in their hearts.
