A beautiful sim from @Vesela Pace; I love the little nod to her species, and finding a small but impactful link to her people through a tapestry in a shop.

((Nassau))

After a few days spent hemming and hawing over whether or not to venture over to the asteroid, Vesela found herself strapping her exoskeleton on and grabbing her favorite pair of science blue crutches. These people had saved their lives, the least she could do was explore the asteroid that would be their home for the foreseeable future.

It was… somewhat overwhelming to say the least. There were people from all over and the shops were vastly different from those seen on typical Starfleet Starbases.

There was “L’uroj’s Emporium” that seemed to specialize in knives of all kinds, “Sasea’s Fine Dining” run by an elderly Rigelian woman, and “Snitches Get Stitches” a rather creatively named tailor shop run by Zhahnevaa, who was a field medic who still practices when the need arises.

The shop that drew Vesela in the fastest was “Antiques, Eccentricities, and Other Small Things in Life.” Usually she wasn’t one for antique stores, but being in a new universe perhaps a look inside wouldn’t hurt and could shed some light on things.

((Antiques, Eccentricities, and Other Small Things in Life, Nassau))

As she pushed open the door, a bell tinkled softly and the atmosphere instantly changed. This store felt so far removed from how the rest of Nassau felt that her shoulders relaxed unconsciously.

Vati: Hello, welcome in!

A melodic voice called from behind the desk. The woman behind it hadn’t looked up to see who’d entered her store, she was busy tapping on a PADD of some kind.

Pace: Hello!

When Vesela’s crutches and footsteps sounded, she cocked her head slightly and looked at her latest customer. As she did, Vesela could see the Kriosian spots on her forehead. Whether the proprietor was shocked by the crutches or not, she didn’t let on.

Vati: You must be from the fancy new ship. I’m Vati, the owner of this shop. It’s nice to meet you…?

She inflected her last word up, making sure Vesela knew it was meant as a question.

Pace: Vesela. Vesela Pace. You’re right! I am from the new ship.

Vati: Well, welcome in. If there’s anything I can help you find, please let me know. I might even give you a discount as a first time customer…

She winked playfully before going back to her PADD.

Vesela smiled and began giving the wares a cursory glance. Most of it was trinkets and baubles, nothing truly of use. A few beautifully bound Saurian journals here, a few Andorian shawls there, even a Nausicaan bandolier on display.

Pace: You’ve got a very nice stock here, Vati. How do you acquire these items?

Vati: However I can, dear. ::A short pause.:: Nothing untoward of course, usually donations or ships coming through, though those tend to be quite the rarity these days.

Vesela nodded, not looking back at Vati instead opting to keep browsing the vast array of items.

After about thirty minutes, Vesela had chosen one of the Saurian journals with an intricate design on the front. She brought it to Vati, who offered her a discount as she said she would.

Vati: There’s… something else. You’re Elaysian, aren’t you?

Pace: ::Somewhat warily.:: Guilty as charged, Vati! ::She paused.:: Why, are there more Elaysians here? On Nassau?

Vesela’s heart rate quickened before she could tell her brain not to hope.

Vati: I’m… sorry, but not to my knowledge, Vesela. I do have something I haven’t put out on the floor, though. One moment.

She left, then returned carrying a small box. She placed it on the counter gently and opened it, revealing a well-cared for Strand and small tapestry. Vesela gasped at the sight.

Vati: I see you recognize these. I had a vague idea about the pearl and bead strand, but the tapestry… I don’t know much about it.

Pace: I… could tell you about these, what they mean and where they’re from.

Vati: Would you? Most of my acquisitions I know more about, these… were a mystery.

Vesela noted the use of were in her sentence and smiled a bit at that.

Pace: I’d love to!

Vati motioned toward a table and chairs, and brought the box to the table. The pair sat and talked for what seemed like an eternity, discussing Elaysian culture, Kriosian culture, science, archives, antiques, eccentricities, and other small things in life.
