Doz Finch Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Really enjoyed reading this sim by @Ayiana Sevo. As always, full of interesting references and glimpses into the characters past. 💚 Lt. JG Toran Sevo - Death Before Assimilation (google.com) Quote (( Hallways, Deck 15 - U.S.S. Gorkon ))  Toran Sevo swung his bat’leth in the air around him, practicing his moves and stretching his muscles. He was near the security team he was assigned to, guarding a certain section of corridor in the event the Borg boarded. They hadn’t done so yet, but he wanted to be ready. The XO had made sure the security teams were armed with melee weapons as well as their standard phaser sidearms, as it was harder for the Borg to adapt to a blade in their armor. Toran already had a nice collection of bladed weapons from a myriad of cultures, but his preference leaned towards Klingon weaponry.  He had fought alongside Klingon ground troops in the lost Dominion War back in his universe, came to respect them greatly, and learned to wield some of their weapons. He had kitted himself out with his standard-issue phaser sidearm, a mek’leth on his back, a bat’leth, and his d’k tahg — a gift from a fallen Klingon friend who died in his arms back in his universe. The heavy blades were not made of the super-dense and folded metal sometimes favored by top-skilled Klingon warriors, but standard forged baakonite, as the former was too heavy to effectively wield without the commensurate strength of a Klingon (or possibly a Vulcan).  To be nervous would be an understatement, Toran thought. He had never personally fought the Borg, but had performed numerous simulations against them, most in the past few days as the Gorkon found themselves trapped in this timeline. This now made three separate universes (or timelines? He didn’t know the difference), in which Toran found himself in. The first, of course, was his home universe, where the Federation had collapsed to the Dominion following their overwhelming invasion of the quadrant. The veterans of the crew of that time had colloquially called it “Over There,” but to Toran, it would always be “home.” Only one other person on the ship could possibly know what it was like — his fellow transdimensional crewmate Erin Reynolds, who’s doppelganger commanded the ship. They sometimes talked about those times, finding comfort (or confusion) in their unique, shared past.  T. Sevo: oO I should have stayed on Trill. Oo  Now here he was again, trapped in another timeline, this time overrun not by the Dominion, but the Borg, which was far more terrifying. The Dominion could only kill you; the Borg consumed you — mind and body. It was even worse for a Trill with a symbiont. He wasn’t sure exactly what happened to the assimilated Joined Trill; survivors were few and far between. Toran had made a promise to himself that he’d rather die than be assimilated; either by his hand, or a fellow crewmate. Hopefully, it wouldn’t come to that.  He had already received a few bangs and bruises thanks to whatever mental patient was allowed to pilot the ship. Toran and his security team did not have the luxury of seats and harnesses, and were stationed in the open on the corridor. All they had was the railing along the wall and their planted feet, which found air more than a few times as the ship shuddered and turned. Maybe it wasn’t a good idea to eat that hasperat earlier.  There was a lull in the maneuvering, and he thanked the Gods for that. Planting his feet in a wide stance on the deck, he gripped his bat’leth in a proper form grip, and began his practice routine again.  Toran would not be assimilated. Not today; not ever.   ---------------------------- Lieutenant J.G. Toran Sevo Security / Tactical Officer U.S.S. Gorkon ----------------------------  Simmed by  ---------------------------- Lt.
