Tahna Meru Posted July 21 Posted July 21 A lovely, touching sim from @Vesela Pace, with scientific expertise and emotional depth. I loved seeing Pace pull herself together and carry on with saving lives. Quote ((Deck 17, USS Gorkon)) Vesela had managed to get the fire suppression systems working again, although the repair crew would probably have a few choice words for her when they saw what she’d done. She coughed a few more times trying to clear her lungs. Tahna: Let’s hurry. I think getting to at least Deck 14, with the cargo bay, will be our best option. Solkon: Understood, Commander. I suggest we temporarily split up into pairs to gather the civilians and then regroup by the turbolift. It may save us some time we cannot afford to waste. Vesela glanced at her crutches quickly. She kept her eyes down, trying to maintain a sense of calm, but her mind was racing. She would do her best of course, but in this case she knew her best wasn’t good enough. She would definitely slow down whoever her partner was. Nera: It’s the logical thing to do ::glancing at the others:: However, if the rest of the ship is like this, we’d be better off staying together. Safer if any more of us get injured. Tahna: It’ll be easier to help groups of civilians in a high-stress environment if we stick together. Vesela couldn’t help but feel a bit relieved that they were sticking together, thoughgh she knew she had to be ready to move should the time come. A shuffling noise caught Vesela’s attention and for a split second her adrenaline shot through the roof as the word Borg shot through her thoughts. When her eyes finally saw the Bajoran stumbling towards them she let out a gasp. He was covered in blood. Bajoran Scientist: Crew…you’re crew. Lab…took a bad hit. We need help. Some of my colleagues…didn’t make it… oO Oh Goddesses, no… Oo Tahna: You did well getting help, Mister Tarish. Pace: Hello, Mister Tarish, do you know which lab was hit? Nera: How many of you were in the lab? Solkon: Hold one moment, let me examine that cut. The Vulcan doctor calmly and expertly took care of the cut on the Bajoran’s face. If this scientist looked this bad, what awaited them in the lab? Bajoran Scientist: Please, you have to hurry… Hurrying wasn’t what Vesela excelled at, but she did the best she could. She still made it to the labs last and stood in shock in the doorway. ((Science Lab, Deck 17, USS Gorkon)) The other blueshirts had jumped into action, so Vesela had to too. Everything seemed slow, almost too slow. Her heart was racing so fast she thought it might burst. Why was it so hot in here? The fires were out! And what was that infernal ringing sound? It was so loud she scrunched her nose at the sound. When no one else reacted, it was then she realized how shaky she was. oO Oh. Well, no time for a breakdown just now. This is inconvenient. Oo She tried to calm her breathing, but was only marginally successful. She picked up the pace into the maws of carnage that this lab had become. Nera: ::glancing back at the scientist with Solkon:: what happened here? Pace: I-it looks like an EPS conduit rupture that was concentrated through that ::she coughed, whether it was from smoke or nerves she couldn’t tell:: that panel. The Lieutenant Commander swiped her face, and Vesela realized that she had known everyone in this room. There was only one word in the Elaysian language that truly encompassed this moment in Vesela’s mind. Croívrishte. Translated literally, it meant something like “An open wound of the heart,” or “One whose heart has experienced much pain.” Nera: These two have inhaled a lot of smoke. They’ll recover, with enough time and care. Tri-ox should help them on the way ::removing items from his medkit to prepare the dose:: Pace: Are they able to be moved? Solkon: Response A Bolian scientist stumbled through the door to the connected lab covered in red blood. That meant there were more wounded… Bolian Scientist: Help her… ::gesturing behind her:: Hel… Her body hit the floor with a thud that made Vesela let out an involuntary squawk. Nera: Someone get back there now! Tahna: ::Pointing at the doorway.:: Doctor Solkon, see what you can do. Solkon: Response Vesela once again stood frozen. What could she do here? She only had the most basic medical training, most of these scientists she had no idea how to help. Lieutenant Commander Tahna was checking the Bolian woman’s pulse, the doctors were doctoring, and Vesela was… just there. She swallowed hard and moved timidly towards a working panel, beginning to assess how badly these labs were damaged and if she could put the bigger picture together on just how badly the EPS conduit had ruptured. Tahna: Ensign Pace, is there any chance of getting emergency transports to sickbay? Finally, something her hands could work on. This she knew how to do. She pulled up the transporter power levels. She let out an audible tsk when she saw how low it was. Most of the Gorkon’s power was being diverted towards shields, engines, and weapons. It made sense, but it made her job harder. Pace: There’s a possibility, sir, but I’ll need… seven tricorders. Nera / Solkon: Response Vesela moved to one of the equipment lockers in the lab and found three. She found the other four scattered throughout the debris and tried not to think too hard about anything aside from her duty. Tahna: Solkon, Nera, either of you need a hand? Nera / Solkon: Response Vesela began jury-rigging the tricorders power cells together and plugged them into the console she was working at. She tapped her combadge and called sickbay, explaining their situation and that she would provide some of the power for the transports. Pace: I think we’re in business, but we can only send one person through at a time. And after two — maybe three people this console might shut down or ::she coughed again and said the next word quieter than the rest of her sentence.:: overload. Who needs transporting most? Nera / Solkon: Response The Lieutenant Commander stepped through to the other lab and surveyed the damage. Tahna: How many people can be stabilized enough to move? Nera / Solkon: Response Vesela prayed that the transport modification would be enough to get everyone who needed it to sickbay. Pace: I’ll let sickbay know whenever we’re ready for transport, sirs. One of her hands hovered over her combadge and the other over the console, ready to make the seven tricorders last as long as she could. Tahna / Nera / Solkon: Response Vesela’s heart still felt like it was going to leap out of her chest. Pace: A-aye, I’ll signal them now. Tahna / Nera / Solkon: Response Vesela signaled to sickbay and took a deep breath as she watched the tricorders’ power drain. She pushed a few buttons and watched as she pushed the power cells as far as they would go. Pace: We’re still in business! Who’s next?
