Doz Finch Posted July 18 Posted July 18 A thrilling and sublime sim here from @Tahna Meru who takes us from moment to moment without missing a trick. She's mastered the art of giving us a real time perspective from her characters point of view, and yet still manages to cleverly thread words and ideas from other characters into her sim in a way that really makes the whole scene come together. Lt. Commander Tahna Meru - Borrowing From The Resistance (google.com) Quote ((Deck 18, USS Gorkon)) The communications channel with the bridge closed, and Meru turned to look at her team. Elaysian, Vulcan, Bajoran…all ensigns on their first assignment. Such was a life in Starfleet, she supposed. There was a human term she’d grown quite familiar with—deja vu. Last time she’d done search and rescue through the science labs, she was the junior officer, and they’d only been facing their own waking nightmares. Bentel, she’d take that over the Borg any day. But it wasn’t a choice. Tahna: Turbolift. We’ll start on seventeen and work our way up. Nera: Aye. We’re with you all the way. Pace: Right behind you, Commander. Solkon: Response Meru headed for the turbolift, one hand on her phaser (still felt weird, uncomfortable). Tahna: Any thoughts on our defendable location? Nera: The Maintenance Hangar on Deck 16 could be an option. Pace: The Mess Hall or one of the Lounges perhaps? They are quite far from our current position though. The closest lounge of any kind would be the Observation Lounge on Deck 14. Solkon: Response Where could possibly be defended against the Borg? By a couple scientists and doctors and some civilians, no less? One thing at a time, though, they still had to get to the civilians. Tahna: The maintenance hangar isn’t one of the best defensive positions on the ship, but it does have the advantage of being close by. Nera: Agreed. We could risk heading to Deck 14 and Cargo Bay 3. It’d be easier to defend than the Maintenance Bay, but it’s a lot further away. The further away our destination is, the more opportunity for something to go wrong. Pace: I’m inclined to agree as well. Even if it’s not the most defensible, we could set up some force fields if we have the power and scramble our life signs with tricorders. Solkon: Response Meru nodded—that was smart planning. Add in some extra defenses (traps for the Borg, fortify the doors, scramble their lifesigns, maybe set a trail of false lifesign readings…) and they were on their way to…well, they were at least buying more time. No, don’t think like that. This battle is still survivable. There are too many lives at stake. A whole universe, in fact, and everyone she’d ever known. Nera: Whe ::pausing, restarting his sentence.:: if we’re boarded we might be better off moving from location to location, and masking our life signs, instead of staying in one place. ::almost to himself.:: when you move they can’t getcha. When you move they can’t getcha? That was…an option. Made more difficult by their Elaysian companion, and perhaps by the state of the civilians in the labs. It would have to be a judgment call, later on. Pace: That’s also a valid option, especially if the Borg somehow get a foothold somewhere. Tahna: ::Casting a wry look at the Bajoran doctor.:: That sounds like a Resistance tactic, Doctor. Solkon: Response Nera: It’s not ideal, I admit ::pausing.:: Just something to consider if needed. Actually, borrowing from the Bajoran resistance could be a good strategy here. What would Lark do? She’d certainly feel more comfortable carrying a phaser—and she’d have some daggers, for close-quarters combat. That was known to potentially be more effective against drones, enough that the security officers had all received some, but Meru wasn’t convinced she could take on a single Drone in melee combat anyway. She wasn’t a fighter, not in this life. Still, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to find some melee weapons, even if they were improvised. Inside the turbolift, Meru entered their destination. Just one deck up, so it made for a quick and quiet ride. Ensign Pace leaned against a wall, taking some pressure off her crutches. It was the briefest reprieve Meru had her phaser raised as the doors opened, but rather than Borg, they were greeted by an overwhelming rush of smoke. The fire suppression systems must have gone down; she prayed they were salvageable yet. Nera: Prophets… Ensign Pace froze; Nera seemed to be in shock. Meru briefly scanned to confirm no Borg lifesigns were present on this deck (yet), and took a deep breath. Pace: I’ll try and get this deck’s fire suppression system back online! Nera / Solkon: Response ((Deck 17, USS Gorkon)) Ensign Pace plunged headfirst into the chaos, Meru at her side. She could get the suppression systems working, Meru would keep the flames from turning the group into Starfleet toast. The Elaysian managed to get a computer panel back online with some percussive maintenance, and Meru spied her grin through the haze. Pace: This might take a little longer than expected, power is very low, fire extinguishers might be in order! Tahna: Already on it! Can you borrow power from disused labs? Nera / Solkon: Response There were the flames, nearly up to the equipment locker, ras. Red, not green, so at least it wasn’t a plasma fire. The smoke stung Meru’s nostrils, her lungs, her eyes, as she pried open the equipment locker (ow, hot) and retrieved the silver and red fire extinguisher. Pace: I’m going to try manually tripping the fire suppression system’s sensors, but ::She spluttered out a few more coughs.:: I’ll need assistance prying the panel off the wall! Nera / Solkon: Response Meru pulled the pin, spraying at the flames that licked at her feet, at the base of the flames across the corridor, coughing in the smoke. It slowed the spread, but they needed the systems back online or they wouldn’t make it to the civilians. Tahna: Any day now, Ensign! Nera / Pace / Solkon: Response They had some luck in store, it seemed, as the ship’s systems kicked on, dousing the flames and the officers alike. Meru dared breathe, as the smoke began to clear, the act followed by a rough cough. Tahna: Everyone alright? No burns, minimal lung damage? Nera / Pace / Solkon: Response Her own pants leg was singed, but she’d quelled the flames before they actually got to her. Another shot from the Borg rocked the ship, and Meru stumbled, but kept her footing. The labs would be about halfway down the corridor, just past her own office. Hey, that was an idea—no, too small to be easily defensible. So where would they take them? She didn’t like staying on these lower decks, the Borg would probably try to take out the engines first, and that put the civilians closer to harm’s way if they holed up here. But would they have time to move further afield? Well, when you move they can’t getcha, right? Tahna: Let’s hurry. I think getting to at least Deck 14, with the cargo bay, will be our best option. Nera / Pace / Solkon: Response -- Lt. Commander Tahna Meru Chief Science Officer USS Gorkon (NCC-82293) G239801TM4 1 2 Quote
