StarBase 118 Staff
BORDERLANDS REGION — The USS Resolution (NCC-78145) has discovered the USS Unity, a Federation starship presumed destroyed nearly fifty years ago when Starfleet lost contact with the vessel. Presumed destroyed by the Klingons during a routine patrol mission along the Klingon Neutral Zone, no wreckage from the Constitution-refit class was discovered. When initially identified by the Resolution, the Unity was adrift and devoid of power. An away team boarded the ship and discovered that most, if not all, of the Unity’s crew were still on board, and undergone near perfect preservation thanks to total oxygen deprivation. As the away team attempted to restore partial power to the Unity, the ship’s shields instantly raised, phasers banks powered, and the ship opened fire on the Resolution. “We had no idea what we would find aboard the Unity before beaming over,” Intelligence officer Lieutenant Commander Devon Romjin was part of the away team. “Truth be told, it was quite unnerving to discover the bodies of the crew still intact with no obvious signs of attack. Then, when the power was restored, and the Unity raised shields and armed weapons, we knew we weren’t alone.” Further examination of the ship revealed a non-corporeal entity living in the computer core, believed to have killed the crew. Since the initial altercation, the entity has attempted to reach several of the telepathic members of the crew. The crew of the Resolution is working to determine how to best contact the entity, and a recovery effort to retrieve the crew of the Unity is underway. As they retrieve more corpses, autopsies are scheduled and Starfleet will notify families of the crew members. More on this story as it develops.
