StarBase 118 Staff Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 HECATE — The USS Veritas has prevented a mysterious rogue planet from heading to the Sol system, its ultimate purpose still unknown. With Captain Rahman on personal leave and First Officer Sky Blake still recovering from recent surgery, the Starfleet cruiser USS Veritas was placed under temporary command of Second Officer Jansen Orrey. Lt. Commander Orrey and the Veritas crew were tasked with tracking a rogue planet known as Hecate as it was heading from Cardassian space into Federation territory. The rogue planet was somehow warp capable as it slipped in and out of subspace. “Tracking that thing was like a game of cat and mouse,” said Crewman Tasnim Shandres, an engineering technician aboard Veritas. “As soon as we thought we had it, it suddenly jumped into warp. An entire planet gone like that in a flash, if you can believe it!” The crew soon discovered that the ship’s own warp field had attracted the rogue planet towards them. The Veritas crew placed the ship in orbit of the planet. An away team led by acting First Officer Wil Ukinix beamed to the surface to explore the ruins while the crew on the ship analyzed the data. When the planet jumped back into subspace and started heading towards the Sol System, the crew had to quickly find a way to get off the planet. The away team managed to make contact with an alien life form and convince it that they were not a threat. The alien, believed to be Menthar in origin, told the away team to leave as Veritas was decaying in orbit, and it changed the course of the planet away from Sol. They were then retrieved by another team from Veritas who had teamed up with Dr. Renia Lenai, a scientist on a civilian craft that had also been tracking the planet. Records show that a person named Dr. Lenai was previously associated with the terrorist organization known as the Maquis Reborn. “I have no comment on if there is any connection there,” said Commander Jarrus of Starfleet Security. “What I can tell you is that because of the Veritas crew, an emergency was dealt with, and enough data to keep scientists busy for years was brought back.” After the successful completion of her mission, the USS Veritas returned to Cait Spacedock for repair and shore leave.
