StarBase 118 Staff Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 Our community Writing Challenge ran from 2003 to 2014 and provided players with writing prompts six times a year. Prompts could be anything from “a character’s sacrifice” to “where do you see the universe in 10 years.” Over the course of 11 years, an anthology of creative writing was produced. While the challenge ended in 2014 after a long and successful run, there’s lots to read and remember from this archive. In this column, we’ll be looking back at some of the highlights. This month’s edition includes two entries from August/September 2005. The challenge was simple: The Devil in the Dark. Let’s take a look at some of the stories that were produced! “X Factors” by Ventu A very enjoyable read, right through to the end. It is a comedic piece, that fits in very well with the Trek universe. Q’s have always made interesting characters and this time is no exception. “Lost in a Dreamland” by Maximoff Told in the popular trope of a dream sequence, this story explores what happens when you place familiar faces and environments in an unexpected place. It is an excellent read and at parts makes you wonder whether the character is descending into madness. Hungry for more?
