StarBase 118 Staff
LOKESH, DURONIS II – The staff of Duronis II Embassy welcomed the USS Thor, a powerful new ship to the Luxis System. The inhabitants of Duronis II, which welcomed various off-world embassies to their planet after first contact more than a decade ago, have been struggling with rising violence on their planet as factions vie over the best course forward for their species. The Federation has been an ally of the world government, and has helped defend it – using Starfleet technology – from Starfleet incursions. The USS Thunder-A had been on duty until recently, when it was replaced by the Vesta-class USS Thor as the lead ship in the area task force. Unlike its predecessor, this new ship is better equipped for a research, exploration, and “search and rescue” mission that’s uniquely suited to the goals of the Federation in and around the Luxis System, home to Duronis II and the Federation embassy. Government officials of Duronis II have welcomed this new Starfleet ship. “Starfleet will still be able to provide us with any security assistance might we need, rest assured,” offered Prime Minister Vail Daysa. When pressed on the final disposition of the other Starfleet ships in the area, which remain only by permission of the Duronis II government, a Starfleet spokesman would only say the Thunder would act as backup for the Thor when necessary. Embassy staff have also recently celebrated an award ceremony that saw a number of people rewarded for heroism and bravery in the face of terrorist threats. Following, many senior personnel were given shoreleave to recuperate. But some Laudeans believe that the expanding family footprint of Starfleet offices from the Embassy on Duronis II puts into question the Federation’s promises to strictly regulate its presence on the planet.
