StarBase 118 Staff
STARBASE 118 — Station press secretary AJ Craig confirmed reports that Captain Raymond Hughes lost his life while on duty aboard the station. However, Craig stopped short of confirming unsubstantiated reports that the veteran marine was killed during an operation that has widely been reported as resulting in the arrests of two men rumored to be linked to the continued operations of a criminal syndicate operating in the vicinity of the station. “It is not station policy—nor that of Starfleet—to comment on matters that are directly related to or rumored to involve operational security,” said Craig at an urgently convened briefing of the 250 journalists that live aboard the Trojan-II class starbase. Station security have since confirmed that they are currently questioning an Orion male as well as a Pelian male but stated that they were arrested independently and confirmed that the Orion—believed to be bar owner Oma-Saan—had been in breach of several of the station’s health and safety regulations. When pressed for details of the Pelian’s arrest, which has widely been believed by many to have taken place during an evacuation of a popular alternative nightclub known as The Raven, security officers refused to comment. However, several confidential sources have claimed that the arrests are indeed linked and that both men have links to a criminal syndicate known as the Jenatris Confederation that has been operating in and around the Trinity Sector for the past several months. It is also believed that this is not the first time that members of the station’s command staff have encountered this syndicate, with unconfirmed reports claiming that the station is responsible for putting a stop to a drug cartel operated by members of the Confederation on Tilanna V, which has since been absorbed peacefully by the Klingon Empire.
