  1. Starbase 118, and the sims we write, are more than just actions for characters within the Star Trek realm; they are stories woven with words that give others on our ships, and throughout the Fleet, insight into a story. By participating in the act of simming, we are, at the very core, storytellers. Our words[.....] View the full article
  2. This week, we have some great news from the “Stepping up to the plate” department. Three teams are seeing new facilitators, as follows: Featured Bio Contest: This team, which picks a featured wiki bio every month, as both a way of highlighting the best bios and helping others model the best design, was originated by[.....] View the full article
  3. Of all the technologies seen in Star Trek, none can be said to be as amazing, as overlooked and just as unrealistic as the universal translator (no matter how far we look into the future) than the weather modification network. The purpose of which is to control natural weather patterns across an entire planet in[.....] View the full article
  4. Another wonderful spiced tea! I made a tea for some human friends one winter during Christmas season. It was very well received by them, at the time I had run out of tea and spices from Vulcan because my friends are bigger “tea addicts” than I am. I needed to put together something on the[.....] View the full article
  5. As January ended, the Mercury’s away teams returned from the abandoned DSX with the mystery mostly solved, but with some unanswered questions — for example, the nature of Corporal Sian Douglas’s unconsciousness after an encounter with one of DSX’s cybernetic “spiders.” However, before inquiries could begin, Captain Kells — reportedly at the behest of Starfleet[.....] View the full article

  7. The attacks on the ship lead to a number of key injuries. Doctor MacLaren and Commander Breeman were hurt, but able to continue. Commander Walker’s injury, however, revealed an additional twist. A sentient shadow-like creature had been “sharing space” in the officer’s head. Realizing the security concerns, he was confined to sickbay as the rest[.....] View the full article
  8. Each year, we look back at our progress over the past 12 months to consider what went wrong, and what went right, and how we can grow in the remainder of the calendar. This year, FltCapt. Jaxx and Capt. Herrera assembled our State of the Federation Address, which has been posted here on the website.[.....] View the full article
  9. This data represents the average sims per vessel across the fleet for each month. Some ships will sim quite a bit higher or lower, but this represents the average. February is almost always a slower month for sims than January. Whether we will see a higher average count next month is a toss-up — since[.....] View the full article

  12. It’s that time of week, so let’s get cracking with another weekly poll. Remember, if you want to see something specific in future weeks, please let me know in the poll suggestion thread. Now, it is kind of ironic that I’m asking you to spend more time in front of your computers, reading and thinking[.....] View the full article

As part of Starbase 118′s Writing Improvement Month, we ran a special Writing Challenge in which we asked participants to take the title of a Voyager episode, “Someone to Watch Over Me,” as their theme. 14. The Discovery is ordered to investigate an abandoned weapons facility on Vador III and to secure a mysterious weapon sought after by Starfleet. The planet had been home to Cardassian high-security underground biological and genetic research facilities until fifteen years ago when it was abandoned at the onset of the Dominion War. Apart from advanced[.....] View the full article
