CAPRICALIA — Capricalia, a minor planet on the Federation’s edge, has declared independence and applied to join the Romulan Star Empire, escalating tensions within Federation politics.

The Federation Council convened in an emergency session today in response to Capricalia’s unexpected declaration of independence and application to the Romulan Star Empire.

Located in Sector 57 near the Eridanus Nebula, Capricalia’s relationship with the Federation has deteriorated due to increasing raids by Orion space pirates, which have severely disrupted interplanetary commerce.

High Council member Ozan Zirzal of Capricalia stated, “Freighter companies are refusing to risk losing their ships, crew, and cargo to pirates. Requests for greater Starfleet presence have gone unanswered.”

Starfleet responded, “Safeguarding citizens and space traffic within Federation boundaries remains our priority. However, resources are not infinite.”

The Federation Council clarified, “We are working closely with Capricalia to address criminal space activities. All options are being explored, including additional ships.”

Despite these efforts, tensions remain high on Capricalia after a successful referendum authorized the colony to seek alliances beyond the Federation, specifically with the Romulan Star Empire.

Not all residents support this move. Tanzig Saro commented, “It’s ridiculous to think our small colony can ignore Federation authority. This is political posturing. Joining the Star Empire is impractical—I don’t speak Romulan and don’t like their food.”

The Romulan ruling council stated, “We would consider adopting this failed remnant of the Federation as an act of charity.”

Further updates on this developing story will follow.
