IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING ON THE ARTEMIS! @Gila Sadar has brought in the poshest-of-posh representatives, and she is trying her damndest to break through the perception that a career in Starfleet has to put your love-life on hold. I'm so excited to see where this goes, and I LOVE her introduction. Quote (( Elysium - Main Level, Deck 6 )) The Ferengi were a most intriguing species, to be sure. In a galactic society like the Federation where the exchange of currency for favors or commodities, and a supply-demand structure of commerce had been long-since abandoned, the idea of entrepreneurship and the ‘self-made woman’ had been made irrelevant by the enhanced quality of life and access to education and a good quality of life for everyone. In short, it was every Ferengi’s worst nightmare. Nadevia Yaros of the Virtavi Dynasty, the resident representative for the Starfleet-catered matchmaking service known as “Starflirt”, didn’t exactly think of it as a ‘nightmare’ - saying so would be far too crass for her sensitivities - but it was certainly a unique situation to be in. Starflirt itself - the platform to which she rendered her services - had started as little more of a silly bit of mischief on a lone Starship, but the sentiment had garnered traction, proving a market for it existed, and was now at an exciting impasse. A moment of growth in the truest sense. Entirely warranted too, as far as Nadevia was concerned. Statistically speaking, Starfleet was filled with individuals of a singular focus and unparalleled dedication, those who put self-improvement and acclaim above the baser and far more common instincts to settle down and find love. Unfathomably so, an alarming ratio seemed to consider romance and matrimony an impossibility while serving in Starfleet... It was a very disturbing trend, and not one considered of any particularly grave importance to Starfleet Operations or the Starfleet Medical Journal. Nadevia disagreed, but it wasn’t as though her eloquently put missives had spurred anyone to action. As such, she had to take matters into her own hands. Virtavi-Yaros: Excuse me, but if I might intrude for just a moment? I shall endeavor to be brief. The two Starfleet officers who had been engaged in quiet debate - animatedly so, perhaps even contentiously - seemed momentarily distracted as the petite woman approached their table. She was an odd vision to be sure, commanding attention in spite of her slighter height, barely 5”5 tall, and dressed in an ankle-length flowy dress in muted blues and reds, the fabric simultaneously simulating a heavy look like velvet or corduroy, while still being breezy enough to flutter behind her as she moved. Centrich: Uhh... Sure? What can we help you with? Nadevia smiled widely, gesturing to the empty seat at their table. The other officer - his shoulders dressed in the blue fashions of the sciences - nodded, prompting her to take a seat. Virtavi-Yaros: I am delighted to make your acquaintance. I am Nadevia Yaros, and I would like to talk to you about “Starflirt”. The display of expressions depicted on the two officers’ faces were akin to a veritable roller coaster of emotions, eliciting a most familiar apprehension within the Yaros family's memories stored within her. It brought to mind an occasion when her esteemed paternal great-grandfather, Armas Virtavi-Laine, had gone to the Head of the Dynasty to present his newest masterpiece; a prototype intended to serve as an upgrade to the, at that point, outdated scalacampid sensor equipment that was used during his lifetime. She vividly recalled that distinct sensation, the knowledge that you had their attention, and that you were rapidly losing steam. Time was working against her, and she had to move with expediency. Virtavi-Yaros: I promise you, this conversation shall be entirely devoid of binding obligations on your part. My sole intent is to present the notion that love and duty might not be mutually exclusive at all, but instead make your life of service more fulfilling and worthy of your effort. The gold-shirted officer, seemingly the most opposed to the notion, was ready to rebuff her advances, but she leaned forward slightly, her dark brown eyes glittering with animation and genuine excitement, and he seemed to think the better of that course of action. Virtavi-Yaros: I am not so naive as to think that I shall leave you to your evening with full endorsements of Starflirt’s presence aboard the Artemis, nor do I expect you to sign up once my pitch has reached its conclusion. I merely hope to spark your imaginations, to instill within you the hope for something more. You and your fellow crew serve the Federation admirably day after day, but surely, there must be more life itself than simply the droll repetitions your duties require of you? The Artemis flies among the stars themselves, and yet the romance of discovery and the longing for ever grander horizons have dulled as of late, have they not? She knew it had. She had been in their shoes once, after all. Not in their shoes, thank the Ancestors, but she recalled her time at the Academy vividly. It had been just over a year since she realized that her true calling was outside of her inherited charge, and while she recalled the palpable dread with which her maternal aunt-twice-removed had regarded her son, an outlier who chose to leave the family and his betrothal behind to pursue his passions, she had been unable to resist the call. Her skills as an engineer were far from mediocre - she had the collective genetic memory of the Yaros family, and indeed the Virtavi dynasty itself, to rely upon - but reprogramming a cerium finalizer in a phaser array, or running diagnostics on an unstable warp core simply didn’t inspire the same thrill in her mind as watching the face of someone who finally understood love and true connection. She supposed that, in the end, she and Ihana were simply too alike. As Nadevia returned to the bar area to resume her previous position from where she could observe the remainder of Elysium, her mind was so wholly absorbed in analysis of her pitch, how to best cater it to those in need of it, and how to accurately pick out potential Flirters from a crowd, that she failed to realize that her previous chair now boasted an occupant. The red hair first attracted her gaze, though it was the achingly familiar visage that most commanded attention. Nadevia’s face lit up with a radiant joy that completely overtook her mind, now turned to grander pursuits: catching up with old friends. Virtavi-Yaros: Alroyo!? Wha- ::struggles for words:: How? Nadevia reached out towards the Bajoran woman, inviting her into a joyful embrace, barely allowing her time to respond. Lyara: Response Virtavi-Yaros: So I see! My sincerest congratulations. The Artemis is certainly blessed with good fortune to have you. Nadevia’s expression momentarily turned dour, as she realized that she was still supposed to be recruiting potential Flirters to enhance Starflirt visibility aboard the Artemis, and thus was not entirely free to engage in this reunion with an old friend. Lyara: Response And thus, inspiration struck, and Lyara Alroyo was to be her muse. Virtavi-Yaros: ::brilliant smile:: Oh, I should love that! So much time has passed, I am certain that you have endless stories to tell. I must confess, I similarly have something I should like to discuss with you; a rather personal matter intrinsically linked to my presence aboard this Ship. However, for the moment- ::looks to the bar:: Pardon me, Bartender? A glass of white sangria, please. ::looks to Alroyo with expectancy:: Lyara: Response TAGS/TBC 5 Quote Link to comment
