I know it's been a while since it was simmed, but we still need to talk about this genius scene:- 138 replies

Official Discovery Season 2 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)
Blake replied to Rahman and Rivi Vataix's topic in Trek Discussion
Ladies and gents, I have decided I would like nothing more than a show led with Anson Mount's Captain Pike and some adventures with Number One and Lt Spock. Honestly, if CBS doesn't do this, after that finale, those execs should be written off as mad. -
One of the biggest "complaints" from anti-Discovery viewers was always to do with "they have holographic technology before it existed!" - to which I always link to this Telstra ad: Fact is, "back in the day" of classic Trek, stuff like holographic technology was a blip on the radar - practically nonexistant. A twinkle in inventor eyes. Today, however, we've not only established VR (which, honestly could be considered early versions of a holodeck) but also have a very, very rudimentary version of 'holographic' capabilities as Discovery has established. If Calypso established anything, it was that Discovery ends up without a crew, lost in space for years. Part of me wants to believe that this is because of a huge disaster with the spore drive - a jump gone wrong, if you will, which would explain why the crew had to abandon ship and Discovery ended up alone for hundreds of years. Not implementing the spore drive in any other Starfleet vessel following this incident seems like the most logical conclusion. The technology is not wrong. It is more in line with how we consider the future.

Fun fact, that Red Shirt (Commander Nhan) is actually a Barzan, a race introduced in TNG. -

Poll of the Week: Captain You'd LEAST Like to Serve With?
Blake replied to Randal Shayne's topic in Poll of the Month
You're more likely to die or suffer a breakdown/injury under the short tenure of James T. Kirk than you are any one of the other captains. No thank you. -

Uhhhh . . . nay. Discovery rides the line along "oh that's a cool addition thanks to MA rating" and "we really did not need to see that" - and Tarantino has a habit of . . . breaking that line all together. I don't need a hard R Star Trek. I don't even need an MA Star Trek Discovery. If he wants to do a Star Trek film ala First Contact, then sure. Otherwise . . . yeah, no.

Every time I think back on it, it feels like Tucker spent more time commanding the NX Enterprise then T'Pol did, despite not being the FO. He's a bit rough around the edges, but he'd have made an excellent captain.

My engineering character Tristam (whom I've taken to calling the "anti-propulsionist") is very much pro-transporter in the face of slipstream drive and warp factors - I've begun toying with a transporter concept, not necessarily transwarp beaming as of yet, that he's been working on in his spare time in-sim. To simply get from point A to point B with next to no hassles, I see this is the way to go. That said, exploration should still be important, and completed with starships. The transporter shouldn't be the main transportation in areas that haven't been fully charted/colonized by the faction that's employing it (in this case, the Federation).

I'm not a fan of 'death scenes' - I find that a lot of the time, they're drawn out or in some ways too complicated and I've never found them overall satisfying. But I like the emotional reaction to that kind of loss from others. I think all of the characters I've killed (and one I brought back to life (haha)) have been killed off-screen, with the reactions to that simmed, because that kind of reaction lasts not just for one scene - it can affect one for years to come if necessary and could easily change your character, which is what I've specifically done with Blake, in that she lost her husband (off-screen) and is still affected by that two years on.
