StarBase 118 Staff Posted February 23, 2021 Share Posted February 23, 2021 The Chat Team is responsible for running several Chat-orientated events, notably the Fleetwide OOC Chat and Fleetwide Watch-a-Longs. Today we meet with the Chat Team Facilitator Lt. Commander Serala so we can learn more about this important part of our community! Taybrim: Thank you for joining us. Can you please start by giving us a short overview on the Chat Team and how it supports our StarBase 118 community? Serala: The main purpose of the team is to organize, coordinate and moderate the monthly Fleetwide OOC Chat, where we go around the fleet and see what amazing and awesome things each crew has been up to for the past month. Usually this chat is held on the second Sunday of each month, but we do try to have a few special-time events to accommodate our members in Australia, New Zealand and Asia. We also host two Watch Along events, featuring some of people’s favorite Star Trek episodes, as well as the Annual Trivia Chat, where our members get to compete against one another in all areas of Trek knowledge. These events are really great at helping to build that community connection so that we can all truly feel as if we are part of one larger community rather than isolated ships. What is your favorite thing about working on this taskforce? For me, it has really helped me to connect with the rest of our community. Prior to joining the team, I had rarely visited any of the chat rooms on Discord, aside from my own ship’s chat room, and I had really begun to feel disconnected from the rest of the fleet. Now, I get to meet people from every crew and to hear about all of their awesome adventures. Who can join the Chat Team? Anyone who holds the rank of Ensign or above and is maintaining a full-time sim status can join the team. The only thing they need to have is an active Discord account. How would a new member join this taskforce? New members can join the team by simply reaching out to me via Discord (my user nickname is ○●● Serala/○●● Karise Indobri ) or by signing up on the forums here. They can also speak to their CO or FO who I am sure will be able to direct the member to me. What is the most fun thing about working on this Chat Team? I think for me it has to be getting to know other players from around the fleet and hearing about all their amazing adventures. Thank you so much for your insights on the Chat Team!
