Official Welcome to the 2016 Awards Ceremony!

Recommended Posts

To the community of UFOP: StarBase 118,

Welcome to the fleetwide awards ceremony for 2016, or (as our characters know it) 2393!

As the veterans among you will know, the award ceremony recognizes some of the most talented people in the history of the organization. With the annual awards having been moved from the end of the year to coincide with the fleet's 'birthday', we're celebrating 22 years of simming with style! Among this year's notables with respect to duty post awards includes the first time an Ensign has received The Order of the Valiant Heart (the counselor of the year), and recognition of a strategic operations officer with a duty post award. Our finest simmers continue to show that they can take unusual positions, posts outside the traditional rank structure, and more, and create memorable, award-winning characters when they do so! Here is a glimpse of some of the excitement to come...

The special and staff awards, which are coming in the next few days also recognize a talented group of simmers and includes two new special awards. The first is The Luminary Award, which recognizes members between the rank of ensign to lieutenant, who show great promise in their future endeavours in the fleet. The second is Quark's Bar, which recognizes members who are regularly active on the forums, have been supportive and involved in conversations enhancing the overall forum experience. The Shuvalis Diamond of Recognition is a staff award for long-term achievement in leading the Publicity Team and before 2016, it also was awarded for achievement in leading the Training Team. This year, the T'Pau Cluster of Distinction was created to recognize achievement with the Training Team separately. For the first time since 2010 the Kathryn Janeway award will be presented to a very hardworking and deserving former captain, who was an absolute powerhouse and left an indelible legacy on our community history before retirement.

The member service awards continue to grow, recognizing membership lengths of one, three, five, and ten years! A remarkable number of simmers have been around for such extended periods.

Congratulations to everyone recognized in this ceremony, and a great many heartfelt thanks to all our members who submitted nominations and assisted with the awards process.

-- James (Fleet Captain Renos)
