  1. Congratulations everyone! Thoroughly enjoyed my first awards ceremony. Roll on next year! 😁
  2. I'm awaiting a graphics request. But here's Gogi waiting to pick up his suit from the dry cleaners...
  3. I think I'd like to see something based at Starfleet Academy.
  4. I'm totally with you, @Delan Han! The whole "monoculture" thing drives me nuts. I think way too deeply about these things too. As you say, with little old Earth being as diverse as it is, why shouldn't pretty much every other planet be as well? That's why I liked what 'Enterprise' did with the Xindi. I'm looking forward to delving deeper into the Bardeezans in the future and fleshing them out some more.
  5. I actually agree with all the options of this poll. Although, ideally I like my sci-fi to be as "realistic" as possible, I usually explain such things away as: "Oh, that's just a human translation for (insert thing here) and obviously the native species has a different name for it in their own language." It happens all the time in the real world. If I were a Spanish-speaker talking to an English-speaker in English, I would use the English words for food/drink/whatever. The thing that bothers me more, is what are the chances that both humans and Saurians invented brandy totally independent of each other? But that I usually tell myself is either one of two things: 1. It's not *actually* brandy, but the use of that word is a rough approximation. Or 2. Human brandy (or whatever) was imported to these worlds and they've started to make their own versions. Much the same as you can have whiskey made with different techniques in different places producing different and distinctive tastes. In which case, I suppose you could have things like "Human gagh" or "Human groatcakes", which would be human takes on those dishes.
  6. Looks good. I think with the design of the uniforms in season 1 and now moving on to these, we've seen a transition from the boiler suits of Enterprise to the more aesthetically pleasing uniforms of TOS.
  7. I have to say, as Discovery went on I began to just accept it for what it was. It did take a few episodes, but I got used to it. The Klingon thing still annoys me though. 🤣 As I said, loved that they explored Klingon culture more and the season finale was great, as you say Sotak. I also liked the fact that they weren't afraid to make big decisions and kill off big characters. The whole Lorca twist was fantastic! Very much looking forward to seeing Captain Pike! Does anyone know when season 2 is due to air?
  8. Haha! Good point, well made. I agree, season 2 is looking very exciting! Hope it lives up to my expectations.
  9. Thanks! Good to know I'm not alone thinking these things. I love the fact they've gone deeper into the Klingon culture by the way, it's just that the look of them is so different to the point where I have to actually remind myself that these guys are supposed to be the same race as Worf! Also, I totally get what you're saying about the "look" of the show. Technology being what it is these days, the show was always going to "look" smoother and (dare I say it) better than TOS, but as you say, they are doing things in it that seem like they should be taking place after TOS, not before it. I am enjoying the story as a whole, it's almost Game of Thrones-esque the way it keeps you guessing as to what's coming next, so will definitely stay with it. I'm not averse to change, but I would have preferred it to be a bit more familiar so as to make it more "believable" so to speak.
  10. Hey all! So I know I'm late to the party, but I've just started watching Discovery (about six episodes in - no spoilers please!) and was just wondering how people felt about it? I like the story and when I get lost in it, I find myself enjoying it, but then certain things snap me out of it. The main problems I have with it are: 1. The Klingons. I find myself subconsciously thinking of them as an entirely new/different species. 2. The direction doesn't feel very Star Trek-y, which would be fine on another show. But I find myself having to adjust to it, rather than being able to just slip into it. 3. Considering the story takes place 10 or so years before TOS, the technology on display seems to be too futuristic (which I know seems an odd thing to say for a Sci-Fi show). Maybe it's just me and I'm not saying I don't like it, I just don't really know how I feel about it yet, so was wondering what other people's opinions are.
  11. Does anyone think there's a chance Tarantino would adapt his style to make it more palatable to Trek fans?
  12. That video is great! Especially the voice over and the "you're out of your ******* mind, Spock" bit! 😂😂😂
  13. I'd be interested to hear from a Trek fan who thinks it's a good idea. The problem is, I'm not sure there are any! 😂
  14. I've got to say, I totally agree. I like a lot of Tarantino's films, but to me his style doesn't belong anywhere near a Star Trek movie.
  15. Forgive me if this has already been discussed, but what do you fine people think of Quentin Tarantino directing the next Trek movie?
  16. Thanks! :-) Yeah, maybe it could be included in a "welcome to training" email or perhaps provide the link in one of the tutorials? Just a suggestion based on my own shortcomings really! Haha!
  17. Hi all! I'm currently in training and am new to simming. I was just thinking that it might be helpful to cadets to let them know what sort of equipment they would be issued with (phaser, tricorder etc.) and the capabilities of the equipment. I've had a good look around the wiki and there is plenty of information which is great. I just thought it might help people like myself who are Star Trek fans but are maybe not so up on all the technical stuff to be given a quick run-down on the standard issue stuff for training and beyond. Really enjoying training. Looking forward to getting my first posting! Much love, James (Cadet Gogigobo Fairhug)
